The Role at a Glance

The Manager, Data Engineering Lead, designs, develops, and maintains scalable and reliable data pipelines while ensuring data quality and security. This position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and contributing to architectural decisions. This position stays current with the latest technologies and best practices in data engineering.

The Manager, Data Engineering Lead leverages their expertise to create and implement data solutions using Microsoft Fabric tools, including Data Pipelines, Azure Data Lake Storage, OneLake, Data Warehouses, and Power BI. The position works closely with stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and effective visualization for business intelligence needs.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Data Engineering

  • Develop and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines on Microsoft Azure, ensuring adherence to industry’s best practices and alignment with business objectives
  • Design and orchestrate data workflows using Azure Data Factory, ensuring efficient data processing and management
  • Drive architectural decisions and best practices for data platform components, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Monitor data pipelines to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability, troubleshooting issues as needed
  • Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver end-to-end data solutions, addressing specific business needs and driving data-driven decision-making

Data Integration / Data Governance Execution

  • Optimize data flow by leveraging cloud-native data integration services and tools, ensuring seamless data movement, transformation, and storage within the cloud environment
  • Establish and enforce robust data governance standards to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and security throughout its lifecycle, adhering to industry best practices and regulatory requirements
  • Define and manage metadata, data lineage, and cataloging processes to enhance data transparency, traceability, and accessibility, enabling efficient data discovery and analysis
  • Implement comprehensive data quality frameworks for continuous monitoring and improvement of data quality and reliability, fostering trust in data-driven decision-making

Vendor & Capacity Management

  • Manage relationships with external vendors providing data and reporting services
  • Ensure vendor deliverables meet quality and performance standards
  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendor performance against service level agreements
  • Supervise capacity throughput for reporting and data development/support resources
  • Optimize resource allocation to meet project demands and business priorities
  • Ensure efficient utilization of consultants and internal resources

Partnership and Collaboration

  • Perform Fit/Gap analysis required for solution design and planning
  • Act as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams, including business partners, product owners, and analytics, to ensure alignment and integration of data solutions with business objectives.
  • Advocate for the design and implementation of reusable data integration solutions, ensuring consistent and efficient integration practices across the organization.
  • Partner with IT peers globally designing reusable solutions with consistent integration to Brother Japan
  • Participate in IT related initiatives and meetings

Key Experience & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, data architecture, and data modeling
  • 3+ years of experience in AI/ML, Python, SQL, Spark, Azure services; Databricks technologies; data visualization skills; designing and implementation of Microsoft Fabric-centric data platforms and data warehouses

Licenses & Certifications

  • Azure Data Engineer - Preferred

Software/Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Azure iPaaS, Data Warehouse, Business Intelligence, and Azure Data Lake

Other Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

  • Ability to successfully lead teams and drive data & reporting IT initiatives from concept to launch
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Strategic thinking skills with a results-oriented mindset and a focus on driving continuous improvement and innovation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into actionable product solutions
  • Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple large projects at once

Compensation & Schedule for This Role

This role will be a hybrid role. Subject to business needs, employees may work remotely up to two days per week. Assigned office days will be determined by managers. #LI-Hybrid

  • New Jersey:
  • The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $ 130,000 - $ 160,000 per year
  • Tennessee:
  • The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $ 110,000 - $ 131,000 per year
  • Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data
  • This position is eligible to participate in the relevant Brother variable pay incentive plan(s). Applicable bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon 1) achievement of your individual objectives and 2) Brother achieving its corporate and business-level objectives

About Where We Work

Brother’s corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group. Brother also has employees based in other locations, such as Westminster, CO, where many of our marketing and product engineering team members from the mobile solutions division operate, as well as our distribution centers in Richmond, VA and Perris, CA. Additionally, our outside sales teams work remotely within their territories, staying geographically close to the accounts they support to ensure they are always “at your side” for our customers.
