Power Systems Automation (PSA) is the Operational Technology (OT) team that provides technical application and infrastructure support for the utility, including the Energy Management System (EMS) and its supporting technology, distributed network and virtual computing resources at power plants and substations. We will deliver multiple Operations Technology (OT) projects to address substation, distribution and power plant operations automation. Our infrastructure platform is fundamental to our success and ability to upgrade and expand how we deliver power for customers.

In this role you will apply sophisticated knowledge and experience with servers, workstations, networking, data communications, cyber security and NERC Critical Infrastructure, protect (CIP) standards to develop, operate and maintain the highly available 24x7 OT infrastructure including:

  • Design, deploy, configure, and lead network systems and integrate vendor products
  • Network switches, Network Firewalls, Physical Security and Access Control systems and Intrusion Protection and Detection systems in an IT and OT environment.
  • Tripwire, SolarWinds, Dell EMC Avamar/BRM, Rsyslog, SharePoint, AssurX
  • Cisco Systems, Palo Alto Firewalls, ForteNet Network systems
  • IBM Security QRadar SIEM, Cybereason, Tenable / Nessus
  • Dell VxRail (with embedded VMware and vSphere) hyper-converged infrastructure

Job Responsibilities

Here is more about a day in the life:

1. Develop and maintain quality computer support processes and design standards for:

  • High availability, redundancy and operational continuity and configuration management.
  • NERC compliance, Cyber security protection and intrusion detection.

2. Collaborate with customers and vendors to:

  • Design business and system requirements of the roadmap.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for infrastructure and operations concerns.
  • Maintain lifecycle management, system performance metrics and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

3. Develop and support system changes that include:

  • OT infrastructure, operating system and application patches and upgrades.
  • Configure, test and deploy servers and workstations, hardware, software and data recovery.
  • System interfaces, performance and reports with vendor supported software.

4. Operations & Maintenance

  • Monitor, diagnose, resolve, and report incidents and user issues
  • Liaison with other providers (e.g. Seattle Information Technology Department, vendors and consultants, generating plants, substation, data network communications, regulatory compliance agencies

5. Participate in 24x7 call-out support rotation.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

In addition to the requirements below, successful applicants will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Technology Management, or a closely related field (or a combination of education and experience which provides an equivalency to perform the work of the class.)

Experience:

At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in an Operational Technology Infrastructure environment (i.e. regulatory compliance, information assurance, security operations, systems engineering and security policy development/administration, SCADA system environments).

Licensure: This position may require the driving of city vehicles. You must hold a current valid state issued driver’s license from any US state to be verified prior to start date. Out of state license holders will be required to acquire a WA state license within 30 days of hire.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Deep technical experience with network routers, switches, and firewalls from Cisco Systems, Fortenet, Palo Alto Networks, Cisco IOS and NX-OS, PAN-OS
  • Experience in OT for a public or private Utility
  • Administration, patching, cyber security, scripting, automation, and debugging
  • Experience supporting Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • SharePoint, MS Office, Microsoft.net, SQL, Python, XML, Java, PowerShell, VBScript, Linux command line shells (e.g., bash, zsh), or other environments, including Web servers
  • Requirement and design specifications; testing, deployment, and incident response documentation
  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 or v4
  • Flexibility to work independently or in teams of users, peers, vendors, and consultant resources; to include mentorship
  • Experience with NERC-CIP or other cyber security regulatory compliance.
  • Operational technology communications networks
  • Coordination of activities which impact engineering, field crews and operations personnel
  • Willingness to learn and accept responsibility, follow safety rules, work efficiently, effectively and independently

Additional Information

The full salary range for this position is: $52.63 - $79.00 per hour.
