Essential Duties

1. Assumes primary responsibility for a program, service, activity, operation or function in an assigned area. Develops objectives, practice and procedure and identifies resources to ensure accomplishment of operational goals. 2. Coordinates day-to-day operations in order to achieve designated goals. Ensures effective management and leads the development and implementation of best practices. 3. Designs and implements quality control metrics to identify areas of risk. Analyzes, recommends, and implements strategic solutions to minimize risk. 4. Develops a variety of complex report and other written materials. 5. Provides guidance to and collaboration with internal and external partners as necessary. 6. Develops, oversees and monitors budgets. 7. Develops and maintains specialized training. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Focus:

The Yale Center for Civic Thought aims to encourage thoughtful public discourse and civically responsible intellectual life in a rising generation of students, faculty, citizens and leaders. The Center works at three different scales: on campus, with New Haven and with a partner project in Washington, D.C.

On campus, the Center sponsors an array of events and activities exploring society’s most challenging moral and political questions. The Center also hosts the Citizens Thinkers Writers program, a summer and academic year experience for New Haven public high school students. Nationally, the Center works with the Philosophy & Society Initiative of the Aspen Institute based in Washington, D.C..

Reporting to and working closely with the program directors, the Program Manager will be responsible for the coordination and administration of all aspects of the Center’s activities. This work includes planning, organizing, and staffing events; hiring, training, and supervising student employees; handling arrangements for visiting guests and fellows; managing the Center’s calendar and travel; collaborating with internal and external partners; administering the Center’s budget; and coordinating any conferences the Center hosts. The Manager will also run the admissions process for the Citizens Thinkers Writers program and plan and execute each year’s curriculum and activities. They will also be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining public-facing content about the program including website, social media, and printed material.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Proven experience administering or supporting programs in an academic, nonprofit or civic organization with related goals. Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate teams, projects, and events.
