The Position

A healthier future. It’s what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love.

That’s what makes us Roche.

In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organization (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.

This position is located in Lead Discovery, a department within Small Molecule Research which is part of the Therapeutic Modalities function, where the discovery of chemical starting points for further optimization in medicinal chemistry is a primary focus. We closely collaborate with our therapeutic areas and functions to convert hypotheses into innovative therapeutics.

The opportunity

We are offering an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Scientist in High Throughput Screening to contribute and work with multidisciplinary teams of scientists dedicated to initiating and implementing novel drug discovery projects, and to jointly shape our future portfolio as a member of a broad network of drug discovery specialists.

As an individual contributor to projects you use your knowledge to design and execute experiments within your area of expertise.

  • With your expertise in hands-on assay cascade design, assay development, execution, and troubleshooting of cell-based and biochemical high-throughput screens, you enable the identification of chemical starting points and their progression to advanced lead series relying on a wide range of assay technologies.
  • As part of multidisciplinary project teams you are driving discovery projects at the intersection of cellular assay development and the high-throughput screening teams, by collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Your critical thinking, data analysis and interpretation skills paired with excellent communication skills enable the joint decision making process in early small molecule discovery.
  • You actively create a continuous learning environment to provide guidance and troubleshooting to help your colleagues.
  • You stay up-to-date with the latest assay technology and trends to improve assay efficiency and output.

Who you are

  • We are looking for an experienced Drug Discovery and High Throughput Screening Expert with 5+ years in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or equivalent experience in the setup and execution of various cell-based assays techniques for targeted and phenotypic approaches. Experience with complex cellular models and in imaging and gene expression analysis (qPCR, drugseq) would be of great added value.
  • You are experienced with the established software scheduling environments (e.g. Cellario, GreenButtonGo and others), as well as standard data analysis tools (e.g. Genedata, Spotfire, D360).
  • You are resourceful and flexible in problem solving and in working in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • You have strong oral and written communication skills and are proficient in presenting and discussing data in internal/external meetings.
