The Position

Background

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate to join our Business Data & Insights group. This pivotal role is crucial for driving innovation and transforming our commercial operations by leveraging cutting-edge data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced digital intelligence. The focus will be on identifying, developing, and implementing data-driven solutions that optimize commercial strategies, enhance customer engagement, and ultimately improve business outcomes within the dynamic pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in AI and advanced analytics, a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical commercial landscape, excellent problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to effectively collaborate across diverse functions as part of a high-performing team.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Opportunity Identification: Discover, evaluate, and monitor application scenarios for new digital technologies, specifically AI and advanced analytics, that align with the specific business needs of a pharmaceutical company's commercial operations.
  • Project Leadership & Implementation: Participate in project planning related to these initiatives and assist in developing detailed implementation strategies to integrate AI and advanced analytics solutions into commercial processes. Serve as a key technical member of project teams tasked with developing and deploying these solutions, ensuring projects advance according to plan.
  • Model Design & Development: Design, develop, and implement statistical models, machine learning algorithms, and AI techniques relevant to complex commercial data analysis (e.g., sales data, prescription data, market research data, patient data, CRM data).
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams (e.g., Sales, Marketing, Market Access, IT) and external partners to understand business questions and ensure project deliverables are highly aligned with commercial requirements.
  • Data Exploration & Evaluation: Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in commercial data. Evaluate the performance of models and algorithms, iterating to improve their accuracy and robustness.
  • Continuous Innovation: Continuously monitor advancements and iterations of new technologies to identify opportunities that can bring new value to the company, and translate these opportunities into actionable, implementable projects to support business objectives.
  • Capability Building & Best Practices: Promote the application of AI and advanced analytics techniques within the organization. Assist in training sessions and knowledge-sharing activities to enhance the overall technical proficiency of the team, and contribute to the development of best practices for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Insight Visualization & Communication: Visualize and communicate complex data insights and findings through reports, presentations, and interactive dashboards tailored for commercial stakeholders.
  • Documentation & Team Contribution: Document methodologies, code, and results clearly and comprehensively. Participate in cross-functional team meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

Requirements

  • Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Passion for Pharma & Data: Genuine interest and demonstrated experience applying data science, AI, and advanced analytics to enhance pharmaceutical commercial operations.
  • Technical Expertise (AI & Advanced Analytics):
    • Proven experience (typically 10 years for Senior Data Scientist) applying data science, AI, and advanced analytics to real-world business problems, ideally within pharma commercial or related projects.
    • Proficient in utilizing GenAI techniques such as large language models (LLMs) for data analysis and interpretation.
    • Experience in applying Generative AI to develop innovative solutions for complex commercial business problems in the pharmaceutical industry.
    • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into data science problems and deliver actionable insights that drive business value.
    • Strong proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, R) and relevant data science libraries.
    • Solid understanding of statistical inference and diverse machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, classification, clustering, time series, NLP, deep learning) applicable to commercial data.
    • Experience with large commercial datasets (e.g., sales, Rx, CRM) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
    • Excellent data visualization skills.
  • Pharmaceutical Commercial Background:
    • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical commercial operations (e.g., sales, marketing, market access, forecasting, CRM).
    • Direct experience within a pharmaceutical company's commercial functions or significant project contributions to this area. Relevant experience in consulting is a plus.
    • Familiarity with pharma commercial data sources and privacy considerations.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration:
    • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to independently address complex business questions.
    • Experience contributing to or leading AI/Advanced Analytics projects.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective in presenting insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Ability to thrive in collaborative, interdisciplinary, and cross-functional team environments.
