Hiring Range : Salary $60,465.60 - $83,283.20

The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates the medical record for completeness of documentation in accordance with state, The Joint Commission, federal regulations; medical staff bylaws/rules and regulations; hospital policy and compliance requirements. Prepared to meet with The Joint Commission during surveys.
  • Works closely with leadership from other departments including physicians and nursing staff.
  • Participates in process review and improvement meetings.
  • Makes crucial decisions to achieve success by reviewing and analyzing productivity standards.
  • Ensures productivity standards and goals are met for direct reports.
  • Reviews scanning, analyzes inpatient and outpatient records for complete and timely documentation, researchs/coordinates the correction of any medical records number duplicates and/or documentation errors in the system.
  • Assists with legal requests in collaboration with the Compliance and Privacy Officer.
  • Oversees insurance, auditing reviews (i.e., HEDIS and /Risk Adjustment), to ensure staff is completing requests in a timely manner.
  • Provides on-going EMR education to providers and staff. Serves as technical expert in health record content and documentation requirements. Utilizes several databases, electronic forms management systems and software to perform required tasks.
  • Assists in writing health information policies and procedures that reflect new or revised approaches to management of health information and contributes to ensuring that regulatory requirements are met when revising policies and procedures.
  • Works with the company’s patient record storage company to account for all patient records stored offsite and ensures the storage and destruction of those patients charts in accordance with federal and state regulations/laws.
  • Prepares reports for management; coordinates operations with other groups within the organization, completes unbilled spreadsheet with updates regarding the status of missing documentation and sends to management.
  • Interviews and selects qualified applicants for open, budgeted positions within the guidelines set forth in Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to staff concerning their performance, implementing corrective action as needed and per human resource policy. Ensures performance evaluations are thorough, timely and include goal setting for each individual.
  • Effectively uses KRONOS time and attendance system and other human resource information systems and processes. Effectively interprets and implements Human Resource policies and consults with Human Resources as necessary. Encourages and supports applicable certification of all eligible staff.

Education: Associates degree in related field required. Minimum of three (3) years of related experience and one (1) year management experience required. Acute care hospital coding (ambulatory and inpatient) preferred.

Certifications / Licensure: RHIA or RHIT, CCS or CIC preferred.
