The Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) Global Surveillance Division seeks a Principal Software Engineer to enhance our team located in Melbourne, Florida. The role encompasses a range of responsibilities including the deployment, automation, maintenance, and enhancement of systems and software infrastructure to assure optimal operation. The selected candidate will have a strong technical background and a proactive approach towards automating and managing environments, as well as driving continuous improvement.
As a collaborative team member in our agile development process, the Principal Software Engineer will design and implement application builds, releases, deployments, and configurations. They will engage with internal stakeholders to collect requirements, prototype, and design sophisticated solutions, and support building and testing activities. The role involves conducting quality reviews, troubleshooting, and resolving operational issues.
The individual will also be instrumental in integrating, troubleshooting, and testing new software modifications. A critical aspect of this position is the ability to independently handle complex challenges and to steward solutions to fruition, collaborating effectively within a team setting. Comprehensive knowledge of the software development life cycle is paramount, with specialized skills in requirements and MBSE to manage and scrutinize large datasets.
Job duties also extend to taking charge of ambiguous and difficult problems, providing leadership, and demonstrating a strong understanding of automated testing processes.
The Software Engineer will be deeply involved in the entire software development lifecycle, engaging in requirements gathering, system modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance. They will apply their technical acumen in resolving complex integration issues and interface between system analysts/programmers and users to ensure that the technology solutions align with end-user needs. This will involve documenting requirements and developing test procedures to ensure fulfillment of user expectations. Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met. Interaction with Program Management and government customers may develop as part of the role; hence, excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal) are essential.

Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
