The Engineer – School Operations & Support provides system configuration, data validation, and technical assistance for school-facing SIS operations across Houston ISD. This includes setup and support for schedules, grades, calendars, and attendance. The Engineer collaborates closely with school staff and the central team to ensure the student information system reflects district policies and academic operations, and that campuses are supported in day-to-day system use and annual rollover activities.
1. Support SIS configuration for courses, schedules, grading periods, and student placement.
2. Assist campuses with troubleshooting data entry issues related to attendance, gradebooks, or student schedules.
3. Validate data during SIS rollovers and at grading or reporting milestones.
4. Document SIS processes, user guides, and help desk responses for common school support needs.
5 Participate in testing SIS updates and communicating release changes to schools.
6. Collaborate with academic and compliance teams to ensure SIS aligns with district policies.
7. Escalate complex issues to senior engineers or SIS vendors with appropriate documentation.
8. Conduct data audits and cleanup related to student schedules, rosters, and transcripts.
9. Train or support school-based users on SIS processes and procedures.

Bachelor’s degree in education technology, information systems, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum of 5 years working with SIS platforms or K–12 student data. Campus-based experience supporting schedules, grading, or attendance preferred.
Works independently or under supervision of senior engineers. May serve as point of contact for specific schools or SIS modules.
Performs system support tasks independently and applies judgment to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Identifies and resolves common SIS errors in scheduling, grades, or attendance. Assists with districtwide SIS configuration cleanup.
Impacts campus data accuracy and daily operations. Mistakes may affect gradebooks, transcripts, or audit compliance.
Regularly interacts with school clerks, counselors, and central office teams. Provides end-user support and follow-up.
Serves as a trusted partner to schools, helping ensure a smooth and accurate SIS experience for all campus staff.
Office work environment. May require extended hours during integration launches, SIS transitions, or academic year rollovers, hybrid setting available.
