The Senior Architect – Data Management & Security Operations provides technical leadership over HISD’s enterprise data integration, access control, and governance infrastructure. This role designs secure data pipelines and oversees system architecture for data flow between ERP, SIS, Microsoft Fabric, and reporting platforms. The Senior Architect plays a key role in safeguarding sensitive information, standardizing metadata, and ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal data policies.
1. Design secure and scalable enterprise data architectures to support reporting and analytics platforms.
2. Lead efforts to implement role-based access, audit logging, and data encryption within core data systems.
3. Develop integration patterns and security frameworks for SIS, ERP, Power BI, and cloud platforms.
4. Establish metadata standards and support automated data cataloging and classification efforts.
5 Collaborate with IT, Legal, and Security to implement FERPA and HIPAA-compliant controls.
6. Define data lineage and governance structures for critical datasets and pipelines.
7. Monitor data infrastructure performance, reliability, and risk.
8. Provide technical mentorship to architects and engineers working on access and data management.
9. Participate in the evaluation and selection of security and governance technologies.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or related field required. Master’s preferred.
Minimum of 6 years in enterprise data architecture, integration, or identity and access management. Experience with K–12 data systems preferred.
Leads architectural planning and solution design within the data management and security domain. Mentors technical team members and leads critical infrastructure efforts.
Applies independent judgment in designing systems that balance performance, usability, and compliance. Operates at high technical and strategic levels.
May recommend tools, licenses, or services for security infrastructure. No direct budget control.
Solves cross-platform security, access, and architecture issues. Proactively designs systems to prevent data loss or misuse.
Affects districtwide access to sensitive data. Improper configurations may lead to breaches, audits, or operational disruptions.
Works with cybersecurity teams, legal advisors, IT administrators, and data governance staff. Must communicate technical decisions clearly.
Ensures district staff have secure, appropriate access to data. Builds trust by ensuring stability, compliance, and transparency.
Office setting. May involve extended hours during audits or data incidents, hybrid setting available.
