The Architect – Enterprise Innovation Lab designs and builds custom applications, data integrations, and system enhancements that extend Houston ISD’s core enterprise platforms. This role works closely with solution architects, business analysts, and end users to develop secure, maintainable, and scalable tools using modern cloud-based platforms. The Architect helps bridge gaps between core ERP functionality and operational needs by building lightweight, user-friendly applications and workflows tailored to district priorities.
1. Design and build new applications, integrations, or workflows that address business and instructional needs.
2. Develop secure, modular, and scalable applications using low-code/no-code platforms or modern web development stacks.
3. Support integration with core systems such as Oracle Fusion, Microsoft Power Platform, and SIS/LMS tools.
4. Participate in project planning, requirements analysis, prototyping, and solution reviews.
5 Maintain clean documentation, technical diagrams, and release notes for all solutions delivered.
6. Collaborate with security, data, and infrastructure teams to ensure technical alignment and compliance.
7. Deliver solutions that reduce staff workload, streamline approvals, or digitize manual processes.
8. Work with users to test, validate, and train on new features or tools.
9. Contribute to shared development libraries, design patterns, and solution templates.
10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field required.
Minimum of 4 years in enterprise application development or integration. Experience with education systems or public sector software preferred.
Works independently or as part of a development team. May serve as technical lead on specific projects or modules.
Designs and builds moderately complex applications and interfaces. Exercises independent judgment in tool selection, code quality, and design decisions.
None. May provide technical input on vendor tool selection and licensing needs.
Solves functional gaps in enterprise systems with creative and efficient solutions. Debugs integration or application errors and suggests architecture improvements.
Custom solutions can increase user efficiency and improve process compliance. Errors can impact workflows, data integrity, or user experience.
Collaborates with technical teams, end users, and project managers. Communicates status, challenges, and opportunities during all project phases.
Engages departments in solution development to ensure successful adoption and satisfaction. Acts as a technical advisor during tool creation.
Office or hybrid environment. May involve extended hours for system launches or urgent troubleshooting. Multiple concurrent projects possible.
