Manager, Accounts Payable

Responsible for supervision over assigned area office staff and functions; assists in preparation and processing of documentation required for financial reporting and maintenance of documentation. Must be able to work independently and make firm decisions when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education:

Required: Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in accounting or in a related field such as Business or Finance and a minimum five years’ experience in hospital accounting including three in a supervisory capacity. Must have general knowledge of accounting principles and standards.

Related experience and training:

Knowledge of accounting software and proficient with Microsoft Office products Excel and Word is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises area assigned to effectively and efficiently accomplish department and hospital goals and objectives, including:

  • Interviewing and training new employees.
  • Completing employee performance appraisals and recommending pay increases.
  • Assessing and distributing workflow for optimum efficiency and productivity.
  • Review completed work by staff for accuracy.
  • Performing corrective action counseling when necessary.

Involvement in month end processing and year-end close:

  • Responsible for complete and accurate journal entries as assigned, with appropriate documentation and approval.
  • Reviews expenses to determine necessity of accruals and explain variances.
  • Responsible for preparing financial reports as assigned.
  • Reconciles general ledger assigned accounts as requested.
  • Responsible for completion of audit requests.

Responsible for ensuring all tax related and regulatory filings, payroll and vendor payments are accurate and processed in a timely manner consistent with laws and company policies. Able to create, edit, upload and maintain documents for any accounting function. Maintains and reviews user access where applicable. Responds to questions from internal and external customers with courteous and knowledgeable responses emphasizing adherence to prescribed policies and procedures. Coordinates work groups and committees as needed to facilitate department needs. Creates process improvements and assists with implementation of new systems as well as transitioning from manual processes to computerized or automated processes within designated time frames. Creates training manuals and facilitates end user training as needed. Scans, validates and files required documentation as requested, to remain compliant with State of Florida General Records Schedule (GS4) on the MyFlorida.com website. Performs all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

Works independently with freedom to make job designated decisions and exercises professional judgment on a regular basis. Seeks guidance as necessary from Accounting Supervisors, Managers and Controller as needed.

Accounting and Finance staff, Compliance Committee members, internal and external auditors, physicians, SLA’s, V.P.’s and Managers.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Salaried day shift work week, occasional extra hours, with some variation in days or weekends to meet deadlines; walking, sitting and standing for extended periods; frequent use of desktop or laptop computer; occasional use of personal automobile and travel to attend meetings or conferences.
