Inpatient Coder
Job Summary:
Oneida Health is actively seeking a skilled Revenue Integrity Inpatient Coder to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and compliant coding of inpatient services to optimize revenue capture and maintain regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review inpatient medical records to assign appropriate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of coded information for billing and reimbursement purposes.
- Stay updated on coding guidelines, regulations, and compliance requirements related to inpatient services.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to resolve coding discrepancies and obtain additional documentation if necessary.
- Work closely with the Revenue Integrity team to identify and address coding-related issues affecting revenue cycle performance.
- Provide feedback and education to clinical and administrative staff on coding and documentation best practices.
- Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Keep abreast of changes in coding systems, reimbursement methodologies, and healthcare regulations.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of inpatient coding experience in a hospital setting, preferably with Meditech EHR.
- Thorough understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding systems.
- Knowledge of inpatient billing processes and reimbursement methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in using Meditech or similar electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Certifications:
- AHIMA Certification required
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
The role involves prolonged periods of sitting, extensive computer usage, and the ability to focus on detailed information for coding purposes.
