JOB SUMMARY

The Network Specialist at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for providing guidance and support to all departments and facilities regarding the use and capabilities of Local Area Networks (LANs) and Wide Area Networks (WANs) to ensure their optimal utilization. This role utilizes specialized technical knowledge of LANs and WANs to support timely implementation of networks and user access and works closely with the Manager of Networks and PCs and the Network Supervisor to define, design, evaluate, and implement solutions to meet network system requirements.

Job Functions

Customer Service:

  • Provides advice and assistance to all departments and facilities within the North Mississippi Health Services (NMHS) regarding the use and capabilities of Local Area Networks (LANs), and Wide Area Networks (WANs).
  • Responsible for insuring that all LANs, and WANs provide maximum utilization.
  • Recommends and implements actions for improving.
  • Must have a working knowledge of routing and switching protocols for IPv4 and IPv6 inlcuding OSPF, BGP, VRRP, Multicast/Unicast and Spanning tree
  • Responsible for maintaining and implementing wireless access points and controllers Implementation:
  • Responsible for timely and accurate implementation of networks.
  • Must fully understand Server and Workstation requirements for access to all WAN applications installed on the network. System Analysis:
  • Works closely with the Manager Networks and PC’s, and Network Supervisor to define system requirements in order to provide maximum utilization of all LAN and WAN Systems. System Administration:
  • Administers the NMHS Wide Area Network (WAN) including setting up users to access multiple servers and mainframes as well as setting up servers to be able to communicate with other servers across the WAN.

Required N/A Must maintain primary accountability for evaluating, designing, and implementing network systems, LANs, and WANs for all facilities of NMHS and provides highest degree of problem resolution in both LANs and WANs. Required N/A Must project a good image of NMHS to vendors and suppliers of network and microcomputer systems. Required N/A Must interact with users of microcomputer systems within NMHS.
