PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provides support to the bus drivers. Rides the special education buses for Irving independent school district and ensures safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities. Responsible for the safe and orderly transportation of students on assigned routes of the Irving Independent School District. Operates a mini-activity bus, suburban, or designated district non-CDL vehicle required for transporting students to and from school or designated locations.

Tools/Equipment Used: Operates activity bus, suburban, and designated non-CDL district vehicles, as well as all specialized equipment identified to accommodate students.
Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive movement of the steering wheel with frequent use of hands and wrists
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds., team lifting is not likely to exceed 150 lbs.
Environment: Exposure to inclement weather, including heat, cold, rain, and snow; ability to walk 35 yards within 25 seconds; working positions include kneeling and climbing, with extended reaching in front of and above the body. Climb steps in and out of bus up to 16 times per route from a 20 ‘elevation (3 daily routes); ability to safely exit the rear of the bus from 4’ elevation
Mental Demands: Effective communication skills (both verbal and written); maintain effective control over groups of students; responds appropriately in emergencies; maintains emotional control under stressful conditions
Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to the supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
