Director of Sales, Australia and New Zealand

The Director of Sales, Australia and New Zealand is responsible for driving revenue growth by managing and expanding the company’s installed base of accounts while identifying and developing new business opportunities within the Australasia region. This position involves close interaction with C level executives, operational leadership, facility managers, and business owners to understand their operational needs and strategically position the company’s innovative solutions.

The Director of Sales will align the organisation’s offerings with client requirements to help clients achieve and exceed their strategic and operational goals. The role also includes sales strategy leadership, team management, and operational oversight to ensure alignment with overall corporate objectives and the delivery of exceptional customer experiences.

This position complies with all applicable Australian laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Fair Work Act 2009, the National Employment Standards (NES), the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act (as applicable in the relevant state or territory), and Anti Discrimination laws. Standard hours of work are 38 per week, plus reasonable additional hours as necessary. Any entitlements or loadings for additional hours or overtime (if applicable) will be in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009, and any relevant Award or Agreement.”

Sales Leadership & Business Development

  • Lead Sales Strategy: Develop and implement nationwide sales strategies and quotas in line with corporate objectives. Monitor and refine sales processes to ensure the achievement of set revenue targets
  • Account Management: Collaborate with local coordinators and operational teams to manage existing accounts, upsell additional products and services, and maintain strong client relationships. Foster ongoing communication to address client needs and identify opportunities for expansion.
  • Prospecting: Generate new leads through proactive prospecting, networking, and building strategic partnerships across Australia. Maintain a solid pipeline of prospects and regularly update forecasts in line with company reporting standards.
  • C Level Engagement: Interface with C suite executives, facility managers, and operational leadership to understand customer operations and tailor solutions accordingly. Negotiate contract terms and pricing consistent with Australian Consumer Law (ACL) obligations
  • Sales Process Management: Maintain a structured sales approach, from prospecting to closing, ensuring a seamless customer journey. Provide accurate, timely pipeline reports and sales forecasts to senior leadership. Use OpenTech’s CRM system to document all customer interactions and track opportunities.
  • Relationship Building: Maintain strong relationships with key accounts, industry partners, and suppliers to foster long term business success and growth. Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking sessions.
  • Data Analysis & Strategy Refinement: Monitor sales metrics, analyze performance data, and refine strategies to address performance gaps. Provide regular updates to senior leadership, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives.

Operational Oversight

  • Regional Operations Strategy
    • Develop and implement operational plans to ensure efficient business management across Australasia
    • Align operational initiatives with sales objectives to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
    • Partner with Marketing, Product, Accounting, and technical teams to refine offerings, structure support, and enhance market penetration.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards across multiple jurisdictions in Australasia. Comply with the Fair Work Act 2009, the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act, the Privacy Act 1988, and other relevant Australian laws.
    • Identify and mitigate operational risks to ensure business continuity and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Process Improvement & Efficiency
    • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve operational performance.
    • Monitor and analyze operational data, adjusting strategies as needed to meet key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Encourage proactive problem solving and continuous improvement within operational practices.

Sales & Leadership Expertise

  • Proven Sales Experience Across Europe/UK
    • Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding sales quotas and closing complex deals.
    • Deep understanding of diverse markets, cultural nuances, and regulatory environments.
    • Proven success in business to business (B2B) sales, with a track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Strategic Sales Planning
    • Experience developing and executing sales strategies, including lead generation and pipeline management.
    • Ability to forecast accurately, manage sales funnels, and present data driven recommendations.

Operational & Analytical Skills

  • Operational Leadership
    • Proven track record of successfully managing operational teams, optimizing processes, and consistently achieving performance targets.
    • Familiarity with Australasia regulations and best practices to ensure compliant operations.
  • Analytical & Technical Proficiency
    • Analytical skills to evaluate sales and operational metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM platforms

Communication & Collaboration

    • Interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
    • Skilled at negotiating contracts and cultivating lasting relationships with clients and partners.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration
    • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with Marketing, Product management, and Technical support and Onboarding teams.
    • Comfortable representing the company at public forums, conferences, and industry events.

Educational & Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent in English; additional language skills relevant to target customer demographics are a plus.
  • Ability to travel within Australasia and the United States as needed, including on short notice.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in an office environment and travel within Australia as required.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and operate a computer and office equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 12 Kilograms. Regularly communicates verbally and operates a computer system.
  • Must attend and man a trade show booth for up to 8 contiguous hours.
