Summary/Objective

The Pharmacy Technician has primary responsibility in the areas of unit dose, intravenous admixtures, unit dose packaging and maintenance of floor stock and maintains appropriate records and charges. This position requires skills and experience in filling medications. The Pharmacy Technician must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Essential Job Duties

  1. Makes nursing unit rounds and delivers labeled medications, controlled substances, and pharmaceutical supplies.
  2. Answers telephone and provides information as requested or refers questions to appropriate personnel.
  3. Accurately prepares admixtures utilizing aseptic techniques compliant with USP 797 and USP 800. Prepares unit-dose medications and other pharmaceutical preparations compliant with USP 795. Completes accurate documentation related to sterile compounding and non-sterile compounding.
  4. Capable of setting priorities for daily tasks and efficiently managing time on their own.
  5. Assist in managing inventory by but not limited to cycle counts, stocking shelves and notify any drugs that will be expiring or in need of ordering. Monitors and returns all expiring/expired meds throughout the hospital to pharmacy.
  6. Utilizes knowledge regarding the dispensing of medications/pharmaceuticals in performance of identified responsibilities. Maintains current knowledge of hospital and departmental operational policies and procedures which impact on position responsibilities.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

1 – 3 years experience in hospital pharmacy operations required.

Required License/Certifications

Pharmacy Technician Registration in the State of Texas

CPhT certified.

IV Certification within 3 months of hire (ie: Sterile Product Preparation Certificate, Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique)
