Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for an R&D Senior Software Engineer to work on the development of advanced process control and optimization products/applications for the global Pulp and Paper Industry. In this role you will be part of the team responsible for implementing our strategic technology vision for future controls products and solutions by turning advanced control and AI concepts into real products and applications that help our customers to operate more efficiently and sustainably. The position is based at our R&D center in Dundalk, Ireland. Occasional international travel will be required. This role is contributing to the Ireland Process Automation, Process Industries division. You will be mainly accountable for: •Team Collaboration: Work with R&D engineers and product managers to achieve targets and define new product scopes. •Development Tasks: Design, develop, test, and release products, ensuring high quality within schedules and budgets. •Technical Development: Develop components using C# and .NET, modify code using APIs, perform unit tests, and fix defects. •Coordination: Participate in analysis, design, and coordination with other teams. •Documentation: Prepare and deliver life-cycle documents, ensure timely and quality deliverables. •Bug Management: Create bug reports in DevOps, follow up with engineers, and test fixes. •User Support: Assist end user teams with User Acceptance tests, provide technical support, and ensure availability of support materials. •Best Practices: Share best practices and standardised technical solutions within the ABB R&D community.

Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related engineering discipline with strong experience in software product development using C#.
  • Experience/knowledge with Microsoft .NET, Visual Studio, MS DevOps and Git.
  • Experience with Design Pattern and OOD principles.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Familiarity with container framework technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent technical problem-solving, design, coding, and debugging skills.
  • Strategic orientation and thinking.
  • Exposure to Advanced Process Control theory and applications. (Desirable)
  • Exposure to C++, MATLAB, Python. (Desirable)
  • Application domain knowledge in process industries such as pulp & paper. (Desirable)
