What is this position about?

As a Lead Data Scientist, you will spearhead the development of cutting-edge Generative AI solutions while building and guiding a brand-new data science team. With a strong foundation in Azure cloud services, you’ll be responsible for shaping technical strategies, driving innovation, and delivering impactful AI-driven products.

This is a unique opportunity to lead from the front in a fast-evolving space, taking on exciting challenges and helping define how Gen AI transforms the way we solve real-world problems.

You may work 100% remotely if you are currently living in LATAM, or you can always join us at the office in Montevideo, Uruguay!

Job Description

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of Generative AI solutions, from prototypes to scalable production systems.
• Build and mentor a high-performing data science team, fostering a culture of experimentation, excellence, and continuous learning.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to translate strategic goals into AI-powered solutions.
• Architect and implement end-to-end pipelines leveraging Azure cloud tools for model training, deployment, and monitoring.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest Gen AI advancements and integrate emerging techniques and models into our ecosystem.
• Define best practices for model development, evaluation, and responsible AI.
• Drive innovation through research, experimentation, and hands-on development.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in data science or machine learning roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or team-building capacity.
• Proven experience with Generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, diffusion models, transformers).
• Strong background in deploying machine learning solutions on Azure (e.g., Azure ML, Data Factory, Synapse).
• Proficient in Python and common machine learning libraries.
• Deep understanding of MLOps, model lifecycle management, and cloud-native architectures.
• Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams and mentoring junior talent.
• Passion for building from the ground up in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

What about languages?

You will need excellent written and verbal English for clear and effective communication with the team.

How much experience must I have?

We're looking for someone with 4+ years of experience in data science, including hands-on work with Generative AI and leadership in team development.
