Key job responsibilities

As the Systems Development Manager, you will lead our critical Test framework and System test app Development team . As our Systems Development Manager, you will have the following responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Design and implement test solutions for large-scale, complex software systems with a focus on architectural integrity
• Demonstrate strong coding ability and set high standards through personal implementation contributions
• Proactively identify and resolve software quality issues, architectural deficiencies, and test framework limitations
• Provide insightful code reviews that elevate team capabilities and ensure testing excellence
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of system components to ensure effective test coverage and integration

Team Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead technical strategy development and establish testing priorities aligned with organizational objectives
• Participate actively in hiring processes and mentor team members to improve technical skills and effectiveness
• Guide implementation of engineering best practices including unit testing and continuous deployment
• Drive improvements in engineering efficiency and resolve root causes of persistent quality issues
• Communicate technical decisions effectively and facilitate resolution of contentious issues

Cross-functional Collaboration & Innovation

• Demonstrate measurable technical influence across multiple teams beyond your direct responsibility
• Develop sustainable testing frameworks and approaches that increase productivity across engineering
• Anticipate potential system failures and implement preventative measures before issues arise
• Create solutions that remove bottlenecks and enable innovation for dependent teams
• Balance test coverage metrics with meaningful quality indicators to continuously improve product stability

You'll be the driving force behind our Test Framework, infrastructure and App Development Team, architecting robust automation solutions while leading talented engineers to create testing capabilities that impact hundreds of users daily. This pivotal role requires you to balance technical leadership—designing scalable test instrumentation and ensuring seamless performance—with people management responsibilities including mentorship, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll champion testing best practices organization-wide, make strategic decisions about test coverage and reliability, and continuously innovate our automation ecosystem to empower all teams to deliver with confidence.

About the team

The Device OS team plays a central role in creating innovative devices & services at Lab126. The Device OS team is responsible for the board bring up, low level software, core operating system architecture, innovative framework feature development, associated cloud services and end-to-end system functions that brings these devices to life. The software built by the Device OS team runs on all Amazon consumer electronics devices. The Device OS team also is the center of excellence for developing Cross-OS Software stacks and solutions that helps enable partner teams including developers to drive software convergence and accelerate product development.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 12+ years software engineering experience, 5+ years experience in engineering management
• Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure
• Proven track record in SRE/DevOps leadership
• Expertise in building React Native and Native applications.
• Experience with building testing tools and practices
• Experience in programming with at least one modern language such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C++, C#, Rust
• Experience with Linux/Unix Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong background in test automation and Infrastructure as Code.
• Proven track record of building and mentoring high-performing SDETs/DevOps teams.
• Experience in supporting/managing global teams.
