Position Summary

The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), Department of Pediatrics is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Division Chief of Pediatric Palliative Medicine. The successful candidate should be an established or emerging leader within Pediatric Palliative Care. Experience should include evidence of effective communication, mentorship, and change management. Ideal candidates would be leaders with a strong or emerging reputation in pediatric palliative medicine, possess a track record of academic and clinical accomplishments, and be poised to lead the division to the next level of excellence.

The Pediatric Palliative Care service line cares for patients in every unit and subspecialty within Riley Children’s Health. Strong engagement from all subspecialties allows for collaboration across the department. In addition to the wide variety of patients in the inpatient setting, the team manages patients within an extensive outpatient hospice network, throughout the state of Indiana. The Division of Pediatric Palliative Medicine is a robust, inter-, and multidisciplinary team including social work, nursing, advanced practice providers, child-life specialists, chaplains, and physicians.

Riley Children’s Health is the only comprehensive Children’s Hospital in the state of Indiana. It is consistently ranked highly in US News and World Reports across subspecialties. The Department of Pediatrics is consistently in the top 10 in NIH funding nationally. IUSM located in Indianapolis, has nine campuses across the state, educating the largest medical student body in the U.S. The division is integrated with the school of medicine students, pediatric categorical and combined residency programs, as well as the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program.

Indianapolis is the 14th largest city in the United States and is growing and thriving economically due to a strong corporate base anchored by the life sciences. Indiana is home to one of the largest concentrations of health sciences companies in the nation, which contribute over $44 billion annually to its economy. The vibrant downtown area is a bustling commercial center, entertainment destination and residential neighborhood. The expanding residential base is driven by rich amenities and quality of life – the city is home to a variety of professional sports, arts venues, and outdoor recreation areas.
