Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $37.01 - $37.01. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

JOB DESCRIPTION

Install, maintain and repair various types of door, desk, file cabinets, and electronic locks, including door closers, door adjustments to maintain alignment, and rekeying. Cut keys by duplication, code, or impression. Manage complex keying systems, including grand master and master keying systems.

In-house Locksmith is responsible for all aspects of the door hardware, locks and keying administration systems, included, but not limited to, keying systems and minor construction as needed on door hardware.

Maintain and update the historical record for keys and pin systems for the institution. Coordinate with Security Operation Manager on constructions projects and renovations to incorporate key system.

Category 3 Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, or other potentially infectious materials and Category 1 tasks are not a condition of employment.

POSITION & UNIT ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Install locks: Install locks on doors, windows, and other building features
  • Adjust, repair, and replace a wide range of locks, including padlocks, combination locks, and high-security door locks.
  • Make keys: Make duplicate keys, cut keys by hand or code.
  • Maintain locks: Maintain and service locks, including emergency exit systems and electronic access equipment
  • Provide consultations on security-related issues for the facility’s safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Keep records: Maintain records of changes to an organization's key systems
  • Ability to pick locks

EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma / GED – Required
  • Locksmith license, NYC Dept. of Consumer Affairs. – Required

EDUCATION PREFERRED

  • Technical Diploma Door Hardware installation and keying systems – Preferred
  • Technical Diploma Carpentry or similar building maintenance field – Preferred
  • Corbin Russwin hardware experience. – Preferred
  • Schlage Hardware experience. – Preferred
  • Medeco hardware experience. – Preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIRED

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE PREFERRED

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Proficiency in lock repair, installation, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge and ability to enforce NFPA 80 (National Fire Protection Association standards for fire doors)
  • Trouble shooting and repairing automatic door systems
  • Strong knowledge of lock systems, key control, and access hardware
  • Ability to work independently and respond to emergencies as needed
  • Maintaining door hardware including locksmith skills in duplicating keys, key way systems, and pinning cylinder systems for "BEST" hardware systems

SKILLS PREFERRED

  • Five (5) years Working as a Technician or Facilities mechanic in an institution or industrial role
  • Five (5) years in the industry maintaining/coordinator door hardware and automated door systems in an industrial or healthcare setting
  • Five (5) years in managing systems such as CMMS Computerized Maintenance Management System or similar complex Data Base
