Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer position will work closely to solve quality problems and support new development programs, legacy programs, and conduct internal audits.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Quality Engineer has a broad range of duties, including:

  • Working closely with Engineering to ensure that designs meet applicable quality requirements.
  • Plan and perform internal quality audits and execute action items.
  • Lead quality initiatives to reduce scrap and rework by developing and facilitating cross-functional teams.
  • Conducting quality investigations.
  • Be an active participant in the material review board.
  • Provide quality function support by working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing to manage customer relations, expectations, needs and satisfaction.
  • Independently drive and direct actions with departmental groups to maintain MRB and RMA issues.
  • Drive key quality performance metrics: DPPM, OTD, Cost of Quality, Customer Scorecards, Internal Audit Risk and Effectiveness, Supplier Performance, Contract Review.
  • Source inspection liaison
  • Travel to customer and supplier locations as required.

  • Supporting new product introduction programs by creating and maintaining the following as required:
  • Production Part Approval Process
  • Advanced Product Quality Planning
  • Zero Defects Program
  • Control Plans
  • Inspection Plans
  • Inspection Reports
  • First Article Inspection Reports
  • Supplier Approval and Development
  • Attend NPI meetings including
  • Preliminary Design Reviews
  • Critical Design Reviews
  • Make Buy Reviews
  • Monitor Progress of NPI programs through manufacturing and into production
  • Conduct purchase order reviews related to NPI and production programs
  • Interact with customers on NPI and production programs
  • Engage in problem solving with engineering, operations, and supply chain on NPI and production programs
  • Support shipments of NPI and production programs
  • Conduct internal audits
  • Become a designated quality representative when required by the customer

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of aerospace quality requirements and specifications.
  • Proven track record of partnering with manufacturing and engineering
  • Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action. Experience with formal quality and operations systems.
  • Capable of reviewing and interpreting drawings, contracts / PO’s, and applicable processing standards.
  • Skilled at performing First Article inspections.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • An understanding of use and application of statistics and SPC.
  • Six Sigma preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • 1 to 3 plus years working in the aerospace and or automotive industry in a quality, engineering, or manufacturing capacity.
  • Previous experience in a high mix, low volume job shop
  • Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D Quality Management System processes.
  • Due to ITAR restrictions an export license may be required

Other Skills:

  • Computer Literacy in Excel, Minitab, CAD and Visio
  • Advanced problem solving and advanced data analysis techniques
  • Knowledge in and experience in 8D problem solving techniques, SPC and statistical analysis

Physical Requirements:

  • Continuous periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and phone.
  • Prolonged time standing.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 25 pounds at a time.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands.
