The employee shall provide support to NSWC PC for Machinery Maintenance Mechanic. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic performs general maintenance on a variety of simple and complex machine tools. Typical machines maintained include lathes, milling machines, grinders, saws, hydraulic presses, radial arm drill presses, hydraulic brakes, shearing machines, punching machines, plate rolling machines, water jet cutting machine, welding machines, and CNC machines. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic performs preventative maintenance for all machine tools in all Prototype Fabrication shops. Oil and lubricate machines, clean machinery, change coolants and hydraulic oils. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic performs troubleshooting to determine source(s) of problem and type(s) of repairs needed. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic performs research and identify's suppliers for parts as required for repairs. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic shall follow NSWC PCD HAZMAT requirement instructions, as defined in NSWCPCDINST 5100.33E.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repairs on mechanical and hydraulic components of conventional and non-conventional machine tools and equipment.
  • Direct support in performing all maintenance in Code E43 shops.
  • General maintenance performed on a variety of simple and complex machine tools.
  • Research and order materials and parts as required for repairs.
  • Oiling and Lubricating machines, cleaning of machinery, changing of coolants and hydraulic oils.
  • Perform a weekly visual inspection of all shop safety equipment, and perform a monthly crane inspection.
  • Assist in installation, modifying, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and testing new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls and equipment.
  • The candidate will also assist in placing distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections and install wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers and other electrical devices.
  • Other general duties of a lesser skill may be required during the course of employment
  • Comply with Shop policy concerning regular work area cleanliness and weekly cleanups.
  • Maintain contact with requisitioner and keep managers abreast of their requirements.
  • The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic shall use the processes and protections specified in NSWCPCDINST 5100.33E for all Shops specified Hazmat.
  • Maintain materials (HAZMAT) listed on the Authorized Use List (AUL) and maintain a copy of the (AUL) is with the SDSs.
  • Ensure SDS(s) are readily accessible to employees during each work shift and employees are aware of their location.
  • Ensure limited quantities of HAZMAT (30 day supply) are requested and substitutions of less hazardous materials are used when applicable.
  • Ensure appropriate record keeping, storage and purchase requisitions for HAZMAT and Hazardous Waste disposal are conducted.
  • Perform annual inventories of all HAZMAT in the work center.
  • Before delivery of any hazardous materials onto NSA PC or NSW PCD property, the Machinery Maintenance Mechanic shall provide the COR with an inventory and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for these materials and maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDSs) and ensure they available in the work center for each Hazardous.
  • The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic shall be responsible for maintaining an inventory and a notebook of SDS for all chemicals used.
  • All hazardous materials records shall be available for review by Government representatives.
  • The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic will procure hazardous materials through purchase requests for review and approval by the COR or PCO.
  • The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic shall ensure that all hazardous materials procured for NSWC PCD are approved through the HAZMAT procurement process.
  • The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic will keep track of HAZMAT brought into NSWC PCD work spaces and ensure it has been reviewed and approved by the HAZMAT office prior to use by submitting an Authorized Use List (AUL) addition form and SDS that shall be routed through the Government HAZMAT tool.

Qualifications

  • Must be proficient in the repair and maintenance of lathes, milling machines, grinders, saws, hydraulic presses, radial arm drill presses, hydraulic brakes, shearing machines, punching machines, plate rolling machines, water jet cutting machine, welding machines, and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Must have skill in the use in hand tools and portable power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders, and a variety of test equipment, for example, meggers, test lamps, and amp meters
  • Electronic knowledge is required for CNC machines.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot to determine source(s) of trouble and type(s) of repairs needed
  • High school diploma.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS

  • The candidate shall use shop equipment in a safe and proper manner IAW NSWC PC safety requirements and shop policies.
  • The candidate shall operator mobile equipment such as pickup trucks, provided by the government. Operators shall be licensed and certified in accordance with state law and NSWC PC regulations or instructions related to safety.
  • The candidate shall be required to operate Government equipment such as forklifts and heavy-duty vehicles, Cat 3-Non cab operated Cranes.
  • Knowledge of the Department of the Navy Hazardous Material Management Program
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced experienced in creating and maintain formulas in Microsoft Excel

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Routine lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds required. This effort also requires moderate to heavy manual work, or general shop tasks of a simple and routine nature, or the operation of a motor vehicle.
  • Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 75 pounds.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Incumbent may be exposed to periods of dexterous physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, and lifting.
  • Most of this support is unclassified, but access to, and handling and storage of classified material up to the Public Trust level is required.
