Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, WI is seeking a PATIENT ACCOUNTS SPECIALIST to join our LABORATORY ADMINISTRATION team!

The Patient Accounts Specialist Lab, in coordination with customer service representatives, lab information systems (LIS) staff and revenue cycle edits, releases and bills laboratory outreach clients and third-party payers accurately, consistently and timely to assure that reimbursement is made as quickly as possible. Performs patient accounts activities as assigned following up claims with no response, reviewing and processing client credits in a timely, accurate and consistent manner.

HOURS: Full Time 1.0 FTE, 80 Hours Biweekly

Experience/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic accounting normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of related work experience in a medical patient accounts department is beneficial.
  • Understands and applies insurance billing, governmental regulations and managed care requirements, as applicable, to the billing process.
  • Understands state and federal mandated coverages, health insurance terms, definitions and concepts, as well as auto and other liability terms, definitions and concepts.
  • Understands state law governing privacy, utilizing compliance protocol and refers to policy and procedure manual when dealing with specific issues.
  • Basic CPT and ICD-10 coding desired.
  • Maintains proficient computer skills demonstrated by use of Windows, Word, Excel, internet and all applicable billing systems.
  • Uses excellent public relation skills when working with all customers including patients, third party payers, physicians, and Aspirus personnel.
  • Possesses a pleasant, congenial and diplomatic personality as an accommodating team member. Demonstrates tact and support of fellow employees with a professional attitude and expression in the work environment.
  • Demonstrates resourcefulness, works independently and exhibits initiative and ability to analytically problem solve and exercise consistent good judgment in evaluating situations.
  • Takes direction and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Demonstrates reliability, punctuality and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Exhibits confidentiality in all dealings.
  • Maintains close working relationship with Lab clients.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness in all work products.
