Job Summary:

As a Control System Project Engineer based in Montgomery, you’ll own projects from kickoff through commissioning—leading field startups, guiding clients, and collaborating across disciplines to deliver top-tier automation solutions. This full-time, on-site position is expected to last several years; at project completion, you’ll relocate to the next site (relocation stipend or per diem provided).

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, or related engineering + 4+ years’ experience.
  • Minimum 2 years leading control-systems engineering in a field or project environment.
  • Hands-on mastery of PLC and HMI platforms; FAT and commissioning experience.
  • Thorough understanding of IT/network infrastructure as it applies to control-system integration.
  • Strong problem-solving, decisive decision-making, and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Own small-to-medium projects end-to-end—scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and client communication.
  • Field Champion: Lead on-site start-up, commissioning, and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), troubleshooting real-world conditions.
  • Technical Expert: Read and review P&IDs, schematics, implement PLC/HMI programs, write control sequences, and specify instrumentation.
  • Quality & Safety: Uphold our QMS and site safety standards—train, audit, and coach your crew.
  • Client Partner: Build trust through clear, proactive communication. Anticipate needs, resolve issues, and pursue upsell opportunities.
  • Team Builder: Guide and inspire junior engineers and technicians—promote knowledge sharing and a positive team vibe.

Technical Responsibilities:

  • Be completely self-sufficient in the field—own your scope from planning through turnover.
  • Lead and assist with start-up and commissioning of control systems.
  • Lead and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Read and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and wiring diagrams; provide feedback on “as-built” versus drawing conditions.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of our Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance in all activities.
  • Review standard project documents (technical write-ups, reports, schematics) for technical accuracy, grammar, and formatting.
  • Specify instrumentation for complex control-system packages.
  • Apply a firm understanding of complex control-system design principles.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of IT/network infrastructure and computer-system design as it relates to control-system integration.

Customer Service:

  • Communicate in an effective, positive, and proactive manner with customers.
  • Adhere to customer-specific site standards, procedures, and professional conduct.
  • Provide excellent customer care—be patient, attentive, responsive, and follow through on all commitments.
  • Anticipate customer needs and actively seek to service them.

Project:

  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Understand your scope of work; promptly escalate any out-of-scope issues to the project lead.
  • Lead individual project tasks or small-to-mid-sized projects end-to-end as the customer’s primary technical contact.
  • Communicate proactively with customers and trade partners to keep everyone aligned.
  • Anticipate potential project issues and develop mitigation plans.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for additional work (change orders, new services).
  • Deliver timely, detailed feedback on project progress and task assignments.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of project contracts, specifications, and risk management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • When applicable, direct and oversee junior or subordinate staff on construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks—coach them on safe, compliant execution.

Work Authorization/Other Requirements:

  • Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required.
  • Maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Fit for Duty at all times
