The GO Expansion program has the objective of building an enhanced commuter rail network to meet the corporate mandate and business objectives while adhering to Metrolinx’s highest standards for safety, efficiency, and legal/regulatory/policy compliance, while delivering excellent customer experience. The Utilities and DD&I Lakeshores Specialized Delivery team Project Manager will be responsible for ongoing Due Diligence Investigations & Utility Relocations required for the capital build of the GO Expansion project within the Lakeshores Corridor. Reporting to the Manager, you will support and oversee consultants and contractors work and will actively manage all activities to ensure achievement of objectives according to defined timelines, budget, and approved project deliverables.

What will I be doing?

  • Ensures the project is progressing by completing, assigning, and monitoring day-to-day tasks and providing updates to management.
  • Coordinates with external stakeholders (e.g. municipalities, transit authorities, government agencies, and property owners) on resolution of design issues, timelines, deliverables, changes and other issues impacting project progress, quality, cost, and safety.
  • Identifies, monitors, mitigates, and escalates issues that can potentially put the success of the project at risk.
  • Coordinates the preparation and review of estimates for studies, design, construction, and contingency costs.
  • Ensures an approved schedule is developed, maintained and updated throughout the project life-cycle. Ensures that only approved work scope is delivered by the project and that the project lifecycle is completed within budget.
  • Performs full project life-cycle project management role and responsibilities within a collaborative minded project team on a complex, dynamic and high-risk project.
  • Serves as technical specialist on studies as well as design and construction matters, protecting the interests of the public and Metrolinx in the delivery of a high-quality product.
  • Provides administrative, design, editing, technical, estimating, and priority direction to staff and personnel assigned to individual projects, through all project stages.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team comprised of employees, delivery partner, consultants and contractors to deliver high-quality product and service, and oversees the day-to-day delivery of project team members involved in the coordination and administration of project elements.
  • Coordinates a number of complex tasks under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Completion of a degree in Engineering or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects and stakeholders, preferably involving planning, design, construction, and commissioning of transit stations, facilities, heavy Railway infrastructure including electric traction, bridges, structures, and related works.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is an asset.
  • Project management experience to manage assigned multi-disciplinary projects of high value and complexity and supervise staff engaged in all stages of project management from start to close-out.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence as this role will require you to visit construction sites (approximately 5%).
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience to manage staff involved in complex projects under pressure to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction standards and procedures applicable to an operating Railway environment. Organizational, interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to coordinate complex multi-disciplinary projects under pressure to meet schedule and budget commitments.
  • Knowledge of Progressive Design Build (PDB) or other collaborative project delivery models is an asset.
