Summary

Reports to the Director, Family Medicine Residency Program. Performs assigned clinical, administrative, and educational functions as well as special projects as assigned.

Manages assigned clinical, administrative, and educational functions by:

  • Implementing a program of risk management and quality improvement within the Residency Program.
  • Assisting, in cooperation with the Clinic Director, with the oversight and teaching of medical students associated with the Residency Program.
  • Precepting in the Family Medicine Center, as assigned.
  • Assisting with patient education in the Family Medicine Center in association with the Nursing Manager.
  • Participating in personal research or in research jointly with Residents.
  • Participating in the Family Medicine Department and appropriate committees as a part of membership in the Memorial Hospital Medical Staff.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through successful completion of a Medical Degree and an Indiana license to practice medicine. Requires a eligibility to become a diplomat or status of diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians and must be a member of the Memorial Hospital Medical Staff.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of the ethical and professional standards of the American Medical Association (AMA), the Indiana State Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, Memorial Hospital of South Bend, and the Indiana Medical Staff bylaws, rules and regulations.
  • Requires well-developed clinical skills and the analytical ability to gather and interpret data to solve problems that are complex in nature.
  • Demonstrates well developed interpersonal skills necessary to interact with people in a variety of situations and to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrates well developed communication skills, both verbal and written, necessary to articulate ideas clearly and concisely, make presentations and to provide clinical instruction.
