Albany Medical Center is seeking a dynamic fitness professional to work in our state-of-the-art employee fitness facility. This professional must be creative, dynamic, and willing to work as a team member to provide 1:1, group, and class class instruction to employees and students.

An associate degree or higher is required in related exercise field. ACLS/BCLS, and AED certifications required. Certification from a nationally recognized or accredited professional organization in the areas of fitness or physical education such as (NEA certification, NYS license, ACSM exercise instructor certification, personal trainer certification, strength and conditioning specialist certification). Bachelor’s degree in recreation, physical education or a related field preferred. Flexibility to work early AM, mid and evening shifts required as well as occasional weekends.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Fitness Assistant supports the Manager by following his/her direction related to program development, customer service standards, member services, group fitness offerings, and other fitness center initiatives. Additional duties may include: assisting with assessment of client fitness, motivating clients and team members, identifying specific training needs, applying first aid procedures, constructing instructional programs, leading various recreational activities and fitness classes and fitness circuits, monitoring and communicating client progress, instruct clients in safe use of equipment and exercise techniques; able to apply basic nutritional practices and provide clients with information and resources regarding nutrition, weight control and other lifestyle issues.

Educational Requirements, Licensure, Certificates:

ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fitness Assistant is responsible for fitness center in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling, enforcing rules, evaluating fitness, and coordinating day to day operations of the facility.
  • Assists with training of part-time and temporary personnel.
  • Educates fitness center members on proper and safe exercise.
  • Provides equipment orientations.
  • Executes body composition screenings, participates in educational workshops and fitness-related special events.
  • Executes exercise program design service, including fitness assessment testing.
  • Answers the telephone; coordinates and relays client requests to Director responsible for fitness center as needed.
  • Assures locker rooms, exercise equipment and exercise area are properly maintained; promptly contacts Call Center for assistance and reports concerns to the Director responsible for fitness center.
  • Able to operate basic office equipment (fax, photocopier, calculator, printers) and demonstrate proficient computer skills.
  • Develops reports and data necessary for unit operations.
  • Ability to lift routinely 50 pounds.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; excellent customer service skills.
