Parametric is part of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, the asset management division of Morgan Stanley. We partner with advisors, institutions, and consultants to build portfolios focused on what's important to them and their clients. A leader in custom solutions for more than 30 years, we help investors access efficient market exposures, solve implementation challenges, and design multi-asset portfolios that respond to their evolving needs. We also offer systematic alpha and alternative strategies to complement clients' core holdings.

This role is part of Parametric's hybrid working model, which includes working in the office 3 days a week and choosing to work remotely or in the office the remaining days of the week.

ABOUT TEAM

The Radius Reporting team at Parametric is a brand new and highly visible team:

• The primary goal is to develop a resilient and scalable data and reporting platform on AWS Cloud. This platform will utilize the Medallion Architecture to integrate data from diverse internal and external sources, processing, merging, milestone tracking, and certifying the data using technical and business rules. The team will also implement automated and manual workflows to support robust data governance.
• Creating a high-value platform designed to fulfill multiple needs, including generating standard client reports, and delivering data feeds to partners.
• The team will design a data lake optimized for report generation, leveraging the AWS Stack and Modern Data Stack technologies.
• The platform will require scalable and resilient Microservices to validate services and support user interfaces.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Lead Software Engineer (Data) will be responsible for the design and development of the firm's new Reporting Data Platform, Radius Reporting. This role demands a strong engineering background and expertise in building highly available, event-driven systems. It also involves significant collaboration and communication, potentially across multiple development teams, to centralize reporting data for the firm.

The ideal candidate excels in navigating ambiguity, transitioning quickly from exploratory work to production-ready solutions. They will provide both thought leadership and team leadership, while actively contributing to the design, development, delivery, and support of custom-built applications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead Agile-based product development.
• Provide flexible solutions to complex business problems using our best technology practices.
• Build data pipelines from various sources to produce validated and normalized reporting data.
• Apply best in class engineering principles, optimized algorithms, and data structure techniques.
• Create unit/integration/functional tests.
• Conduct code reviews for other developers.
• Keep abreast of technology trends/tools and recommend improvements to our technology when appropriate.
• Research new cloud applications/open-source technologies and integrate them into existing projects.
• Offer technical and people leadership to other engineers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

SKILL SET

Required Experience: 10+ years.

Skill set: Python / SQL / Spark / AWS S3 / AWS Athena / AWS Glue / AWS Lambda / Delta Lake / Apache Iceberg / dbt / Great Expectations

Primary Skills

• Bachelor's degree in computer science/computer engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience with Python
• 4+ years' experience in cloud native services development (AWS preferred)
• Experience with AWS ETL tools like Glue/Athena
• Experience with Apache Iceberg or Databricks Delta Lake
• Expertise with using SQL Databases like PostgreSQL and relational database design.
• Experience in building highly scalable distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience with agile or other rapid application development methods.
• Demonstrated experience with object-oriented design, coding, and testing patterns as well as experience in engineering (commercial or open source) software platforms and data infrastructures.
• Expert knowledge of data modeling and understanding of different data structures and their benefits and limitations under particular use cases
• Working experience with agile development
• Effective communication skills with business users and other developers
• Strong Analytical skills and ability to understand complex business problems quickly.

Good to Have Skills

• Experience in Financial Services Industry
• Experience with building Data Lakes, Data Mesh or Data Fabric
• Experience with Terraform
• Experience in back-end web development, specifically Micro-services Architecture/Containerization
• Experience in event-based architectures and messaging platforms like Kafka.
