Marine Electrician - San Diego, CA

Job Description

The Marine Electrician will support Field Installation Services on board US Navy ships. Responsibilities include installation, termination, and testing of fiber optic and copper cable assemblies for ship services such as power, communication, telephone, and alarm systems. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Previous experience with multi-pin copper connectors is required, while fiber optic installation experience is preferred but not mandatory, as training and certification will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Install, tag, and band fiber optic and copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval vessels.
  • Layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, waveguides, or fiber optic cable onboard Navy vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and test fiber and copper cables and circuits.
  • Perform shipboard or airframe electrician's trade duties with minimal supervision.
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, technical manuals, and design notices.
  • Use trade tools such as multi-meters, pin crimpers, and soldering equipment for complex electrical installations.
  • Familiarity with MS-Office programs including Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge of copper fiber and fiber optic cables
  • Multi-pin copper connector certification per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Fiber Optic knowledge and experience preferred
  • DBIDS eligibility
  • Ideal candidate is a former Navy ET, IC, AT, or EM rating
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel
  • Minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted)
  • Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams
  • US citizenship with ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus)
  • Successful completion of Navy “A” School or recognized shipyard apprentice program

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
