SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

William Bell School 60 is a Reggio-inspired elementary school within the Butler Lab Schools network, serving students in Pre-K through 5th grade. Guided by the belief that children are capable, curious, and full of potential, the school embraces a progressive approach to learning rooted in inquiry, collaboration, and deep relationships.

The next principal of William Bell will join a vibrant and close-knit school community anchored in the Reggio Emilia philosophy and united by a commitment to student voice, inclusion, and authentic learning. WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The Principal is responsible for the instructional and organizational leadership of the school. This includes setting a clear vision, leading strong instructional practice, and fostering a culture where students, families, and staff thrive together. The Principal of William Bell will steward the Reggio-inspired model while building systems for excellence, equity, and whole-child development.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the continued development and implementation of a school vision grounded in the Reggio Emilia philosophy
  • Supervise and support instructional staff with a focus on inquiry-based learning and responsive teaching
  • Engage families and community members as active partners in the life of the school
  • Manage the school’s operational, personnel, and financial systems to support learning
  • Create structures that promote academic growth and social-emotional development
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts aligned to IPS priorities and the school’s unique identity
  • Ensure the school is inclusive, welcoming, and affirming for all students and families
  • Maintain a close, collaborative relationship with Butler University and the broader Lab School community
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with district policies and applicable laws

  • Language Ability. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees, parents, and students of IPS.
  • Math Ability. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Reasoning Ability. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicable Indiana Administration and Supervision license.
  • Master's degree.
  • A minimum of three years' teaching experience and experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
