We are looking for a Senior Tools Developer to help shape and evolve our economy management solution, which plays a critical role in supporting our games. You will be responsible for translating game design and economy requirements into technical solutions, ensuring that our internal tools are scalable, efficient, and intuitive to use.

As a senior developer, you will take ownership of the design, implementation, and improvement of our Java-based backend and Vaadin-powered frontend. You will collaborate closely with game designers, backend engineers, and other stakeholders to build tools that streamline game economy management.

Join us and work directly on the meta team to help us craft a new, unannounced game for Blizzard, hand in hand with our creative, art, and other tech teams.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain internal tools that support game economy management.
• Translate game economy and design requirements into clear technical specifications and implement corresponding features in the toolset.
• Collaborate closely with game designers, product managers, and backend engineers to ensure tools meet the needs of the broader game development process.
• Own the architecture and technical direction of the tools platform, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Optimize and refactor existing systems to improve performance, usability, and developer productivity.
• Ensure smooth integration between the economy tools and the backend services and game client pipelines.
• Drive improvements in user experience and workflows, building intuitive, efficient UIs for non-technical users.
• Contribute to technical planning and roadmap discussions, helping shape the long-term evolution of the tools platform.
• Write clean, testable, and well-documented code, adhering to best practices in software engineering.
• Support deployment, testing, and release processes, ensuring tools remain stable in production environments.
• Participate in code reviews and provide technical mentorship, helping raise the quality bar across the team.

Minimum Requirements

• Strong experience in Java development, with a solid understanding of backend architecture, design patterns, and scalable systems.
• Experience building internal tools or enterprise applications, preferably with Vaadin or similar Java-based UI frameworks (e.g., JavaFX, Swing) — willingness to quickly learn Vaadin is acceptable.
• Proficiency with relational databases, particularly MySQL, including schema design and performance optimization.
• Experience translating business or game design requirements into technical implementations, with the ability to shape and own API/data contracts.
• Strong CI/CD pipeline experience, including working with tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar.
• Hands-on experience with Docker, including containerizing applications and working in containerized development or deployment environments.
• Ability to drive technical direction, contribute to architecture decisions, and take ownership of systems from concept to deployment.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, comfortable working with cross-functional teams (e.g., designers, backend developers, product managers).
• Proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in a structured development process.
• Strong analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable working in both independent and team-driven settings, with a self-directed approach.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies or frameworks.
• Passion for building great tools that empower others and improve workflows.

Bonus Points

• Experience with Vaadin specifically.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools and practices, including logging, alerting, and observability in production systems.
• Experience with cloud services (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
• Understanding of game economy concepts and design, and how they translate into technical systems or tooling.
• Experience working on greenfield projects, shaping system architecture from the ground up.
