Position Purpose

The Pricing Analyst will be responsible for reporting and analysis of all Yield Management, Pricing and Commercial data in accordance with set deadlines and on an ad hoc basis.

The Pricing Analyst must also ensure that the country complies with the Global Yield & Pricing Policy where applicable.

To support the Commercial Manager with analysis, planning and reporting across a range of DHL commercial aspects, to be used in the formulation of business strategies.

To develop and deploy best in class business support solutions including but not limited to the management of Spot Rates, contracts, tariffs, solution design and implementation of targeted customers in supporting revenue and profitability goals.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure all pricing KPI’s (scorecard) are monitored and reported on a daily, weekly and monthly basis depending on the requirement, to ensure that global targets are achieved and communicated to the management in a timely manner.
  • Provide analytical support and reports to the commercial team as and when required.
  • Detailed pricing analysis and enforcement of pricing and yield policies within commercial channels to control profitability.
  • Develop and maintain databases to ensure up to date customer and profitability data is available to the commercial team at all times. This is to ensure that data is readily available to help sales staff make decision on migration, price increase / decrease and monitor performance.
  • Assist the Pricing regional manager in the day to day functioning of the Pricing department, short term and long term projects, like SPA (Strategic Pricing Analysis), repricing of products/services, competitor research and surveys, mystery shopper, transit time analysis .
  • Produce & distribute on time a monthly pricing pack, required pricing KPI’s for management review and strategy development.
  • Co-ordinate and prepare packs for monthly Yield Management and other pricing meetings.
  • Conductperiodic pricing audits to ensure processes, systems and skills are in place to support business needs and regional/global initiatives
  • Take the lead in establishing protocols and ‘rules of engagements’ between departments
  • Review competitive/market research data to obtain macro perspective of market trends and practices.
  • Participate in joint customer presentations Tenders and on occasion RFQ proposals, ensuring there is a common understanding of service expectations and solutions, both with the customer and DHL.
  • Ensure that proactive customer support (internal & external) is provided in a professional, timely and complete manner and that account managers are aware of issues that may impact their customers.
  • Design, develop and deliver solutions to support the activities of the sales team, targeting nominated customers and prospects

Nature and Scope

a) Context

The Pricing Analyst’s role is key to the Commercial Department’s objective of ensuring that we maintain a healthy profitability. This can be done by pro-actively monitoring customer performance and addressing all issues pertaining to uneconomical business. The job holder is required to have sound commercial sense and judgment will need to be consistently exercised within the job as there will be responsibility, and therefore potential impact, good or bad, on decisions affecting profit.

d) Problem Solving

The Pricing Analyst is required to analyse commercial, business and pricing data and present recommendations for improvement, so that the Pricing and Planning Manager can appropriately incorporate the findings to improve reporting.

The jobholder also needs to ensure that all issues from the commercial team are identified and communicated to the relevant people so that they are addressed immediately.

e) Decision Making

The Pricing Analyst has the authority for all day-to-day decisions affecting his/her daily,weekly and monthly tasks. In consultation with the Commercial Manager, the jobholder can make improvements to his/her current way of doing things or can introduce new systems and reports that enhance analysis and reporting as well as those that add more value and quality.

f) Planning and Organization

The jobholder will be responsible for setting up his/her own work plan, which ensures that all reporting and analysis is completed and submitted within the timeframe agreed with the manager.

g) Position Challenge

In consultation with the Pricing Manager, the jobholder will constantly evaluate our reporting and analysis needs and ensure that we are well within our objectives where yield and profitability is concerned. The jobholder needs to also ensure that Global pricing guidelines and procedures are adhered to at all times and by the commercial team.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Graduate with preferably a maths/statistical background
  • 2 - 3 years experience in an analytical role (desirable with DHL) or with accounts and finance experience.
  • Commercially driven with a high sense of target oriented.
  • Extensive knowledge of Access-database modelling, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint and Word applications.
  • Excellent analytical ability and numeric skills.
  • Capable of presenting ideas and solutions in both written and verbal format
  • Eager and able to work as part of a motivated team.
  • Proactive approach, goal orientated, with a sense of urgency and commitment to quality output.
  • Good Planning and organizing skills
  • Highly motivated and self managing individual.
