Reports To: Senior Manager, Digital and Securities Markets (DSM) and FX Trading and Surveillance Application Services

Job Summary: We are looking for a skilled and experienced DevOps Manager to lead our low latency trading and surveillance systems. You will lead both on-premises Unix systems and AWS-based infrastructure, supporting critically important operations in the APAC time zone. The ideal candidate has a good background in financial services, excellent people management skills, and a consistent record of ensuring service reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Platform Management: Be responsible for the operation and maintenance of low latency trading platforms to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Infrastructure Management: Manage on-premises Unix systems and AWS-based infrastructure, including configuration, monitoring, and solve.
  • Service Reliability: Ensure the continuous availability and performance of trading platforms, implementing standard methodologies for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • People Management: Lead and mentor a team of 8-10 DevOps engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement processes to enhance deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Security Compliance: Ensure all systems and processes align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Customer Communication: Collaborate with internal customers, including development teams, operations, and business units, to align DevOps practices with business goals.
  • Reporting: Provide regular updates and reports on system performance, incidents, and improvements to senior management.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Leadership in Code Provisioning: Be responsible for the design and build of code to provision the full stack from infrastructure through to application, ensuring standard methodologies are followed.
  • Strategic Analysis: Lead investigate analysis and provide maturity assessments of current DevOps practices, driving continuous improvement.
  • CI/CD Pipeline Development: Guide the development of CI/CD pipelines to orchestrate the promotion of code, ensuring efficient and reliable deployments.
  • Integration Management: Supervise the integration of applications into the operations architecture, including tools such as Datadog, Control-M, and Rubrik.
  • Design and Architecture: Advise the design of patterns, modules, and libraries to integrate SDLC processes into the CI/CD pipeline, promoting standardization and efficiency.
  • Project Support: Ensure project teams meet operational requirements and implement changes effectively, providing leadership and guidance.
  • Technical Contributions: Act as a major contributor to support, technical, and user artefacts, ensuring high-quality work.
  • Collaboration and Standards: Champion collaboration with other teams to create common standards and procedures, enhancing overall efficiency.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise in resolving automation engineering, coding, and architecture issues, supporting the team in sophisticated problem-solving.
  • Governance Alignment: Ensure alignment to appropriate group governance processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Release etc.), collaborating closely with other business and technical teams where necessary.
  • Development Support: Oversee development changes, deliver accurate time estimates, attend project meetings, and deliver impact analysis for proposed project work, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Risk Assessment: Offer technical advice and risk assessment based on knowledge of applications, databases, and system software, mitigating potential issues.
  • Operational Ownership: Take ownership of operational live service issues and drive resolution, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
  • Escalation Management: Provide effective customer concerns and resolution of issues to stakeholders where appropriate, maintaining clear communication.
  • Industry Trends: Identify industry trends and ensure these are reflected in the resources provided to development teams, working with policy and platform owners to effect change.
  • Risk and Debt Management: Proactively identify operational risks and technical debt, providing short-term solutions while supervising long-term resolution.
  • Operational Improvements: Identify and implement operational improvements for processes, performance, and reliability, driving continuous enhancement.
  • Educational Contributions: Chip in to creating educational materials and conducting training and mentoring sessions on DevOps-related subjects, fostering team development.
  • Team Advocacy: Act as an advocate for the DevOps team, working to understand and mitigate challenges and gaps with regards to all aspects of the intake process, promoting a supportive environment.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the adoption of standard DevOps toolsets and architecture patterns for onboarding applications into the cloud.
  • Involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from gathering requirements to production deployment.
  • Interaction with a wide variety of teams to generate and refine developer-focused resources, including cloud architecture patterns, templates for CI/CD pipelines, application builds, automated testing, and code scanning to production deployments.
  • Participate in proof-of-concept implementations, pilots, and definition of principles, policies, and standards.
  • Provide a framework, functions (scripts), and templates to ensure consistent and efficient delivery automation of SDLC and infrastructure lifecycle activities, reducing human intervention, avoiding redundancy, and enabling teams to realize the full benefit of standard tools and processes.
  • Advocate for standard methodologies and quality, fostering a "you build it, you run it" mentality among engineers.
  • Strengthen our ability to plan, engineer, and support Millennium Technologies (MIT) equities exchange systems.
  • Evolve the system to meet new requirements, proactively prevent and resolve issues that may impact these services, and provide reactive support in a critically important environment.
  • Accept a demanding and varied but balanced and flexible work pattern, including covering on-site shifts, participating in the 24x7 on-call rota, and supporting weekend testing according to project requirements.
  • Play a key part in improving and evolving our MIT application systems, developing the operational lifecycle, upgrading existing systems, and implementing integration into the operations architecture toolset.
  • Lead DevOps activities for the team and work on AWS-based implementations and CI/CD deployments.

Technical Profile:

  • Technologies: Millennium Exchange (including all Core Services & Security Controls), Terraform, Ansible, Docker, Jenkins, Git, Bitbucket, Kubernetes, ECR, Kafka, Datadog, BigPanda, Control-M, Jira, Confluence, Linux, SQL, and Oracle basic DBA functions.
  • Scripting Technologies: Bash, Python, PowerShell.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in DevOps and Application Support, with at least 2 years in a managerial role within the financial services sector.
