Job Description:
As the Creative Operations Manager, you are the backbone of Sun Life Canada’s dynamic creative team, ensuring that our creative development and design work delivers smoothly. Your role is crucial in improving efficiencies, removing bottlenecks, and ensuring capacity is managed across the team. You will foster a thriving creative environment by ensuring projects are executed seamlessly from start to finish. This is a one year contract role.
What will you do?
- Manage Studio Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operation, capacity and delegation of the Creative Studio, utilizing project management and collaboration tools. Stay updated on AI and other developments to improve efficiency.
- Optimize Workflows: Identify and eliminate operational inefficiencies and bottlenecks by creating, optimizing, and managing workflows for all creative initiatives.
- Project Prioritization: Prioritize projects and negotiate timelines with marketing team and senior leaders.
- Resource Allocation: Triage creative intake using our project management software and collaborative discussions to collect briefs and project details, assigning the right creative resources to ensure success.
- Brief Monitoring: Review and filter all creative briefs, ensuring they are clear and thorough, and assign them to the appropriate designer.
- Workback Schedules: Collaborate with the creative team to build clear workback schedules for each project.
- Proofing and Reviewing: Proof and review designs, checking documents and specs before sharing them with marketing team stakeholders.
- Asset Management: Centralize and organize creative assets in a version-controlled repository, accessible to marketing teams.
- Coordination: Coordinate with creative leadership, partners, and stakeholders to streamline communication and translate concepts into actionable plans, including logistics, timelines, and vendor partnerships.
- Resource Management: Manage the creative studio resources, budgets, and timelines to keep projects on track.
- Data Collection: Collect data (time spent, overhead cost, creative performance, etc.) to contribute to reporting on KPIs, ROI, SLAs, and team resourcing needs.
- Freelancer Liaison: Be the liaison with freelancers and manage associated administrative tasks (SOW, invoicing, payment).
- Tool Provision: Ensure that our team has access to the tools, licenses, software, and equipment they need to bring our visions to life.
What you will need to succeed?
- Relevant Experience: 5+ years of proven experience in a similar role (Creative studio manager, project manager, production manager etc.).
- Creative Environment: Experience with a creative agency or in-house creative team environment is preferred.
- Software Proficiency: Fluent in modern workflow/project management software (Wrike, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
- Bonus Skills: Creative ideation and development experience is a bonus, not a requirement.
- Industry Knowledge: Has in-depth understanding of brand, marketing, and creative design life cycle terminology.
- Strong Organization Skills: Possesses exceptional time management, methodical approach, and meticulous eye for detail.
- Corporate Navigation: Navigates corporate, matrixed environments, with several stakeholders, with ease and professionalism.
- Project Management: Demonstrates a proven track record in creative project management and understanding of design specifications.
- Problem-Solving: Exhibits strong problem-solving abilities and thrives under pressure.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Confidently liaises with stakeholders, makes decisions where necessary, and escalates problems or project blockers.
- Empathy: Practices empathy and emotional intelligence.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
