Job Summary: The I&E Technician is responsible for safely, correctly, and efficiently maintaining, repairing, and/or replacing the physical equipment in the plant. The Technician installs, troubleshoots, services, and performs preventative maintenance on plant equipment. The technician efficiently repairs or, if necessary, replaces the plant equipment to permit the plant to operate continuously. The I&E technician meets this responsibility by understanding and adhering to standard I&E procedures and techniques.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Works safely in an industrial environment.
  • Works with other employees to resolve problems and repair plant equipment.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of control valves and electronic and pneumatic instruments.
  • Performs predictive and preventative maintenance functions on all plant instrumentation and electrical equipment.
  • Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of motors and motor control circuits.
  • Runs PVC conduit and power cables from 600VAC to ground and down.
  • Assists in developing and implementing preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Assists in ensuring proper documentation of plant controls and system modifications testing.
  • Performs preventive/routine and emergency maintenance on equipment.
  • Calibrates, inspects, monitors, repairs, maintains, and documents all field instruments such as transmitters, controllers, valves, PLCs, HMIs, plant safety systems, plant power systems, pH, and conductivity meters in the bleach process.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 4-20mA and 120 to 460 VAC, electrical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Performs other related work as directed by supervisor.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong experience with instrumentation and/or electrical systems, especially process control instrumentation.
  • Understanding of the National Electric Code (NEC) and ISA Standards.
  • Understand Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Signal Flow Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Panel Drawings, One‐Line Drawings, Loop Sheets, and Wire Lists.
  • Work extended hours when necessary to support plant or project activities.
  • Willing to travel for training and continue education.
  • Any other mechanical experience will be considered a plus. (e.g., Welding, Pipefitting, HVAC).
  • Must be able to pass a 10 panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA’s TWIC criteria.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Electrical License Preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Hart Communication, Rockwell software, Allen Bradley Drives is a plus.
  • Requires 10 years of on-the-job electrical experience.
  • Preferred: 5 year of experience at an industrial facility, preferably in a chemical or petrochemical plant.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently climbs stairs and ladders.
  • Frequently bends, stands, and lifts up to 40lbs.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to walk on secure, elevated process platforms in excess of 20-foot heights.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
  • Must have the capability of using Fall Suppression Equipment.
  • Must have the capability of operating a scissor lift, boom lift, and fork lifts.
