Job Description:
The Food Safety Specialist will be a critical part of the Food and Beverage team, reporting to the Food Safety Manager. In this role, you will work with Food Service and Operations teams to ensure our stores maintain a food-safe environment and culture. You will Collaborate with the food service, marketing, legal, and equipment teams. You will be the main point of contact for our territory and regional managers regarding the local health department inspections.

- Analyze and assess food safety risk and apply measures and controls to mitigate risks to an acceptable level.
- Contribute to the design of new products, store layouts, equipment, processes, and procedures with risk assessments, establishing food safety requirements and review and approval processes.
- Provide regulatory guidance and support for retail & promotional merchandise.
- Measure, analyze and report operational compliance to food safety systems standards through audit and inspections, directly or by operations teams.
- Support and maintain operations assessment tools
- Support improvement, corrective and preventative actions with operations teams.
- Assist stores in obtaining and maintaining their regulatory compliance with Food Safety Manager certifications (ANSI approved and accredited), Food Handler, Allergen Awareness and other locally required food safety related certifications.
- Maintain compliance records of those required certifications and coordinate with the legal department on store license renewals and applications as needed.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on certification compliance
- Create Food Safety training materials and content for stores, coordinating with Global Training and Development as needed.
- Conduct classroom and in-store training
- Identify and maintain 3rd Party relationships and support providers, inclusive of identification, capability assessment, qualifications, performance measurement and calibration to brand standards and requirements.
- Provide technical and subject matter expertise as required.
- Provide support and resolution for shop food safety related questions, complaints, and incidents.
- Provide, review, and maintain all food safety content in training materials, videos, courses, and brand standards documentation.
- Conduct regional educational sessions as required.
- Establish & maintain relationships with local & state health departments.
- Overnight travel may be required at times.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree is required.
- Food Safety Manager Certification - ServSafe/NRFSP (or similar) certification level with a score (90%+) that qualifies an individual to apply for instructor/proctor certification is required.
- Certified Professional – Food Safety (CP-FS) credential preferred
- 5 years of experience in retail food safety, regulatory, quality assurance, food safety training or related food industry experience, restaurant or retail operations, equipment, and design for food safety. Strong knowledge of FDA Model Food Code and local regulations.
- Working knowledge of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points, (HACCP), Good Manufacturing Practices, (GMP’s), Food and Drug Administration, (FDA) Model Food Code, Code of Federal Regulations, (CFR), and general microbiology.
- In-depth knowledge of operational best practices, with a focus on restaurant/convenience store industry a plus.
- Computer proficiency of Microsoft products including Excel.
- You have outstanding communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to work cross-functionally while maintaining a focus on equipment initiatives.
- You always maintain a positive attitude towards work and the company.
- You can understand basic technical details and read and execute a user manual.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- You are food safety certified.
