Role Overview

Sodexo is hiring a General Manager 6 – Food Services at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

This role leads food and nutrition services for a 250-bed acute care hospital with a $10M managed volume. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing 7 salaried managers and 67 union (1199 SEIU) employees, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations (TJC, DOH), and maintaining strong client relationships.

Ideal candidates have healthcare food service experience, union workforce leadership, and familiarity with food service technologies such as HealthTouch and Experiencia, especially in implementation. Strong budget management, team development, and client service skills are essential.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee daily operations of the food and nutrition services department in a large acute care hospital.
  • Lead and manage a team of 7 salaried managers and 67 unionized (1199 SEIU) frontline employees.
  • Ensure effective budget execution for both Sodexo and client expectations.
  • Drive performance through training, development, and engagement of all team members.
  • Ensure compliance with TJC, DOH, and Sodexo standards, including food safety and sanitation.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relations, focusing on satisfaction, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize and support the implementation and adoption of HealthTouch and other food service or healthcare-related technologies to enhance patient experience and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate candidates' experience with Experiencia, HealthTouch, and similar technology platforms, ensuring a smooth rollout and integration of service enhancement tools.
  • Apply healthcare knowledge and regulatory awareness to maintain best practices in patient dining and retail food operations.
  • Leverage previous union experience to navigate labor relations, build partnerships, and drive team success in a unionized environment.

What You Bring

  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience in food services, preferably in healthcare or hospital settings.
  • Proven experience leading teams in unionized environments.
  • Strong understanding of food service technology platforms (e.g., HealthTouch, Experiencia) and experience in implementing new systems.
  • Demonstrated success managing large teams and complex budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and client service skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards such as TJC and DOH.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent operational experience.
