The Special Assets Officer is responsible for assisting the SVP, Special Assets Manager, and the Credit/ Risk Management teams in resolving troubled loan situations to maximize the realization value and minimize risk in both work-with and workout scenarios. The incumbent will also provide comprehensive support and guidance on early identification of troubled loans, foreclosure and litigation processes, and disposition of OREO in a manner that is both efficient and market sensitive. In addition, the Special Assets Officer will review and report on delinquencies and individual loan workout/disposition status and the overall condition of the portfolio to the Credit and Risk Management Teams and Genesis Capital Credit Committee. The Special Assets Officer is to ensure Genesis Capital (GC) minimizes credit losses and collection costs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide comprehensive support and guidance to Genesis Capital's Credit Risk Team and Credit Committee on early identification of troubled loans and direct the OREO process and foreclosure process in a manner that is both efficient and market sensitive.
- Collaborate in Troubled Loan Review to ensure appropriate identification and resolution of troubled loans and early identification of potential troubled loans.
- Provide valuable advisory resources throughout the entire organization related to sensitive credit situations and loan workout activities.
- Acts as servicing officer for a Troubled Loan Portfolio.
- Meets with troubled loan customers on a regular basis, monitors financial performance, establishes action plans to correct problem issues, monitors collateral value and condition, and provides continuous diligence to mitigate loss exposure to GC.
- Interacts with Credit & Risk Management and borrowers to better secure collateral, equity, or other assets of the borrower.
- Evaluates financial information, collateral, legal documentation, and other available information to develop an aggressive and comprehensive workout strategy to ensure optimal loss protection to GC while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Consults and work closely with inside/outside legal counsel regarding perfection of collateral as well as necessary legal actions and strategies to protect GC's position.
- Regularly provides reports and communicates findings to Credit & Risk Management, GC credit committee and GC executive committee of individual loans within the special assets loan portfolio and market and economic conditions/trends affecting portfolio.
- Work directly with Special Assets and Credit Risk team members on Borrower and property level cash flow analysis with the ability to propose action plans for resolutions.
- Assist the Genesis Capital sales team as needed to resolve payment, maturity, covenant, or other loan issues that may require heightened attention.
Education and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in in business, finance, or a related field required.
- Master’s in business or finance preferred.
- 10+ years’ progressive relevant Commercial and Residential Real Estate Loan Workout and Credit Risk Management experience in a banking environment.
- Experience with complex legal issues and foreclosure laws across multiple states.
- Experience in private money or hard money preferred.
- Expert knowledge in complex commercial lending, construction, multifamily and financial deal structuring.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of financial institution operations/ systems and compliance/ regulatory issues.
- Industry knowledge of credit and financial analysis, including cash flow analysis, balance sheet analysis, liquidity, and solvency analysis.
- Expert knowledge of credit underwriting policies, procedures, processes, collateral valuation, and documentation.
- Highly Proficient/Advanced in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database application.
- Advanced leadership and independent thinking skills
- Ability to rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Ability to incorporate information from multiple sources to identify underwriting risks, conduct analysis and articulate a concise recommendation
- Ability to lead and manage multiple tasks concurrently and self-prioritize workload to meet deadlines as an individual and leader
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, presentation, oral and written communication skills
- High Confidence level: ability to have difficult conversations as needed.
Compensation Range: $140,000 - $185,000
