SUMMARY

The Lead Mechanical Technician will be the first line of leadership on assisting the Management team with the day to day operations of keeping the mill running. They will supervise and assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the mechanical equipment and systems. They will also review work performance and products to ensure conformance with established methods, policies, and procedures. They will also manage the I-Maintenance work order system, this includes writing, handing out, and making sure work orders are completed properly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager and Mechanical Manager any information that may impede the operation of the plant as soon as it becomes known.
  • Improve and lead the maintenance organization, designing and implementing long-term continuous improvement applications and systems to enhance the longevity of the site’s equipment.
  • Be the job owner and single point of contact between the mill leadership team and the maintenance technicians on any and all maintenance work being done
  • Canvas all tour areas and the maintenance shop daily for cleanliness and organization.
  • Assist maintenance team with any necessary resources required for jobs
  • Help with the store room on parts removed, inventory, and storage to make sure all parts are signed out properly
  • Help develop and control a tool program.
  • Assist production areas with troubleshooting and other assistance as needed
  • Implement, maintain, and support all company policies and procedures, safety programs, and good housekeeping.
  • Actively participate in planning and executing outages for the facility
  • Responsible for maintaining records associated with mechanical integrity.
  • Provide on-call and weekend duty coverage within a designated rotation
  • Additional duties may be assigned by management.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated personnel managerial skills.
  • Four years maintenance experience in a manufacturing plant.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Candidates are PREFERRED who offer the following:

Post secondary education pertaining to industrial mechanical or electrical

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blue prints, P&ID’s, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Able to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy. Able to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, measurement, volume and rate. Able to apply concepts of high school math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or graphic form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Leading root cause analysis and problem solving teams. Analytical and field troubleshooting skills.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical machinery, including conveyer systems, breakers, boilers, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, etc. Knowledge of computer systems and the ability to learn new complex applications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License and/or other appropriate certification to work in certain areas or on certain equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
