We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe DevOps Engineer to contribute to the modernization and automation of our mainframe development environment. In this role, you will focus on designing and implementing DevOps solutions to transition from IBM SCLM to modern DevOps practices using container platforms on AWS, Azure, or IBM Private Cloud. Responsibilities
- Design & Implement DevOps Solutions: Develop and execute strategies for migrating legacy software configuration management (SCLM) to modern DevOps practices, ensuring seamless integration with cloud platforms.
- CI/CD & Automation: Build, optimize, and maintain CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Dependency Based Build (DBB), Jenkins, GitLab, Terraform, Chef, Docker, Kubernetes, and scripting languages like Rexx and Groovy.
- Mainframe & SCLM Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of Mainframe environments, SCLM, SDF, and Zos procedural/scripting languages to support modernization initiatives.
- Migration Leadership: Lead SCLM-to-DevOps migration projects by identifying challenges early and implementing scalable, automated solutions.
- Build & Deployment Automation: Create and maintain build scripts to streamline application packaging and deployment processes.
- Collaborative Communication: Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical teams and non-technical collaborators.
- Problem-Solving & Scalability: Analyze system architectures, troubleshoot issues, and design robust, high-performing DevOps solutions that meet business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced experience with SCLM, SDF, and Zos Mainframe Development in both MVS and OMVS environments.
- Expertise with the complete development life-cycle of applications hosted on IBM z/os sytems.
- Experience with the code, build and test of host batch, and cics online applications written in PL1 and Cobol
- Strong proficiency in CI/CD tools such as DBB, Jenkins, and Git.
- Hands-on expertise with integrated development tools like IBM Developer for Z Systems (IDz) and Microsoft VSCode.
- Advanced skills in automation and scripting using Rexx, Groovy, and Shell scripting.
- Containerization & Cloud:
- Proficiency with containerization technologies, especially Docker and Kubernetes, preferably within an AWS Cloud environment.
- Intermediate proficiency in working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or IBM Private Cloud.
- Proven Experience:
- Demonstrated success leading SCLM-to-DevOps migration projects.
- Proven background as a Technical Architect or DevOps Engineer in both Mainframe and DevOps environments.
- Communication:
- Excellent ability to effectively engage with technical teams and business partners, translating technical insights into actionable strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Operations, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
- 5-7 years of experience in industries such as insurance, mutual funds, or related sectors.
- Experience with microservices architecture and cloud-native development.
- Familiarity with performance optimization, monitoring, and security & compliance best practices in DevOps.
- Proficiency in additional productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
