The BBC World Service's Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region includes Arabic, Persian, and Turkish services. Among these, BBC News Arabic stands out as the largest, with a weekly audience of 35 million.
BBC Xtra focuses on delivering content for 16-34 audiences on TV and Digital, making challenging and often taboo stories relevant and engaging, through bold, creative, transparent journalism. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Presenter to join the team in Beirut.
Main Responsibilities
- Has an accomplished presentation style, built up through training and lower level presenting roles, which is fluent and engages the viewer/listener .
- Broadcast in a manner which is engaging, entertaining and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience, making complex issues accessible.
- Generate ideas and stories; contribute to the creative treatment and be involved in the production of an item or programme; provide clear treatments and proposals, ensuring consistency of content, quality and style.
- Interview BBC reporters and local specialists/advocates/political figures/policy makers in order to elicit information and fill in the gaps in stories.
- Research, script and present output content meeting high journalistic standards and fully observing the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
- Make the best use of new technologies – in particular developments in social media – in delivering our journalism to audiences and to set an example in learning to operate new systems and adapting to different working methods.
- Liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC to ensure that output material is distributed, duplication is avoided and best practice is upheld.
- Provide regular advice on news developments, guidance on agency or newspaper stories and briefings on government policies as appropriate.
- Build and maintain diverse contact lists and databases; compile and distribute information to other members of the team.
- To provide timely, specialist and assured news coverage and analysis of news and events of interest to the audiences of the BBC.
- An organised approach to work, and the ability to meet tight deadlines with a minimum of supervision.
- At all times to carry out duties in accordance with the BBC health and safety policy.

- Proven experience in creating and presenting content on TV or social media for young audiences.
- In-depth knowledge of social media trends.
- Ability to modify a warm and engaging presentation style to make it appealing to younger audiences across different platforms.
- Strong understanding of social media analytics and the ability to apply data to make informed editorial decisions.
- Comprehensive understanding of behind-the-camera work (directing, editing, filming).
- Experience in deployments and reporting on the ground, including from hostile environments.
- Strong creative input in developing new segments and ideas for the show to continuously improve output.
- Thorough understanding of different cultures in the region and a good grasp of audience sensitivities across the Arab world.
- Fluent spoken and written Arabic, with a good knowledge of English.
- Specialist knowledge of the subject area being covered, with the ability to understand the impact of one story on the wider picture.
- Demonstrates balanced and unbiased judgment based on a thorough understanding of BBC Editorial guidelines, target audience, programme, and department objectives.
- Strong team-working skills and the ability to build strong relationships with key people in other parts of the BBC.
- Ability to identify and bring a broad range of relevant guests for the programme.
- Commitment to improving diversity within the BBC and the programme.
- Ability to convey story and programme ideas effectively and contribute fully to the planning and production process.
- Flexibility and adaptability to sustain performance, particularly under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities and circumstances.
- Understanding of health and safety procedures and their application to broadcasting.
