Basic Requirements
Degree: social work. Must fulfill all of the requirements for the master's degree in social work in a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
GS-13 Minimum Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service.
Examples of specialized experience include: Work experience and ability in supervising, planning, developing, and executing a Human Services Program which includes a General Assistance Program providing financial assistance and counseling to reservation residents; a Child Welfare Program providing direct financial assistance to Indian children requiring foster or institutional care, protective and social casework sources to children, foster parents, and natural parents; casework services to families and individuals providing counseling and consultation on social problems, income planning, consultation and technical advice to adult and juvenile tribal courts, tribal officials and committees.

Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period before their appointment becomes final. Those who do not satisfactorily complete this probationary period will be returned to positions of no lower grade and pay than those they occupied before assuming their supervisory assignment.
