The Lead Mechanical Specialist in a chemical industry is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the mechanical maintenance activities within the organization. This role involves managing a team of mechanical maintenance technicians, scheduling maintenance tasks, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and providing technical expertise to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems and equipment. Also initiating PM & CM in coordination with operation team and MIQA. Responsible for material management keeping optimum inventory of critical spares. Should be capable of handling large sized chemical complex with various equipment like turbine driven compressor, Turbine, exotic Material of construction like Glass lined , Niobium, titanium , etc…
Responsibilities
- Maintenance Planning and Scheduling: Develop and implement Mechanical maintenance schedules to ensure timely inspections and repairs of equipment and systems. Coordinate with other departments to schedule maintenance activities to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and expertise to the Mechanical team in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems and equipment. Ensure that repairs are completed in compliance with industry standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all team members. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Inventory Management: Manage and monitor spare parts inventory to ensure availability of necessary components for maintenance activities. Coordinate with procurement to order and replenish supplies as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting: Compliance of QMS, EMS, RC & relevant statutory requirements. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and repairs. Generate reports on maintenance performance, equipment reliability, and resource utilization.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in maintenance operations.
- Emergency Response and Crisis Management: Develop and implement contingency plans for responding to equipment failures and emergencies. Lead the team in executing rapid response actions to minimize downtime and potential risks.
- Team Management: Supervise and lead a team of mechanical maintenance technicians. Mentor and train team members to enhance their technical skills and knowledge.
- Compliance of safety & statutory requirements: as per DISH, IBR and other requirements.
- B&U O&M: Operation and maintenance of B&U including turbine. Also should be capable of handling turbine , Expander driven big compressors.
- MOC: Planning & execution of modification jobs under MOC (Management of Change).
