This role is part of Parametric's hybrid working model, which includes working in the office 3 days a week and choosing to work remotely or in the office the remaining days of the week.

ABOUT TEAM

The Workflow Platform team at Parametric:

• The primary focus is on developing a highly resilient and scalable Business Process Orchestration Platform on the AWS cloud. This platform provides a unified system for defining, implementing, monitoring, controlling, and optimizing all business processes within the firm.
• Utilizing NoSQL databases, Spring Boot, Java, Python, React, and AWS native applications such as S3, AWS Lambda, AWS ECS/EKS for Docker container orchestration, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, etc.
• The main goal is to create a platform centered around self-service, enabling non-engineers and citizen developers to engage in the entire lifecycle of building and managing workflows. This is achieved with the same level of SDLC control that a typical engineer would follow, but it remains mostly transparent to the users.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Lead Software Engineer will lead the design and development of the firm's strategic Business Process Orchestration, also known as the Workflow Platform. This role requires a solid engineering foundation, a product development mindset, solution architect's mindset, and an approach to building general-purpose and self-service platforms. It also necessitates extensive interaction and communication, coordinating and leading a federated community of citizen developers across the firm for its adoption. An ideal candidate can thrive in ambiguity, rapidly navigating from exploratory spikes to production-ready solutions. The Lead Software Engineer will be responsible for providing thought leadership and people leadership to delivery teams while also contributing directly to the design, development, delivery and support of custom developed applications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead Agile-based product development.
• Provide flexible solutions to complex business problems using our best technology practices.
• Design and develop microservices.
• A general understanding of API gateways, security entitlements, and event-based systems is desired.
• Integrate with other services in the ecosystem or public APIs and databases.
• Apply best-in-class engineering principles, optimized algorithms, and data structure techniques.
• Create unit, integration, and functional tests.
• Conduct code reviews for other developers and participate in git merge reviews.
• Keep abreast of technology trends/tools and recommend improvements to our technology when appropriate.
• Research new cloud applications/open-source technologies and integrate them into existing services/APIs.
• Offer technical and people leadership to Software Engineers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

SKILL SET

Required Experience: 10+ years

Skill set: Java / React / BPMN / Cloud Development (AWS preferred) / Microservices Architecture/ REST/Graphql

PRIMARY SKILLS

• Bachelor's degree in computer science/computer engineering required.
• 10+ years of hands-on full stack Java development experience, with React or any other JavaScript based frontend framework.
• 3+ years supervising and guiding software development teams and fostering an engaging, collaborative environment.
• 2+ years experience in cloud native services development (AWS preferred)
• Knowledge about orchestration services, Docker and Kubernetes desired
• Experience developing REST/Graphql API horizontally scalable services.
• Experience in event-based architectures and messaging platforms like Kafka is desired.
• Experience architecting projects integrating across systems.
• Understanding of micro-services architecture/containerization
• Proven experience with test driven development
• Familiarity with GIT version control system
• Working experience with agile development
• Familiarity with continuous integration and build tools like Maven or Gradle
• Hands-on experience with RDBMS and/or NoSql databases like DynamoDB and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
• Effective communication skills with business users and other developers

Good to Have Skills

• Experience in Camunda or any other BPMN based Process Orchestration Platform
• Experience in Financial services Industry.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, specifically terraform.
