Black Hills State University (BHSU) and the School of Behavioral Sciences invites applications for an Instructor of Sociology to begin in August 2025. The successful candidate will serve as the instructor of record primarily for sociology and criminal justice courses that support programs within the BHSU School of Behavioral Sciences (Sociology, Human Services, Psychology).
BHSU is located in the beautiful northern Black Hills, one and a half hours from Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Memorial, and two hours north of Pine Ridge Reservation, one of nine Indigenous reservations located in the state. The School of Behavioral Sciences consists of programs in Sociology, Human Services, Psychology, Exercise Science, and Outdoor Education and offers a wide variety of opportunities for collaboration between different fields and with the community.
DUTIES:
Course load for this position will consist of five courses per semester, split between Spearfish (BHSU main campus) and Rapid City (BHSU-RC, a satellite campus). The successful candidate will design, deliver, and manage engaging courses that promote learning and professional outcomes congruent with the fields of sociology and criminal justice.
Responsibilities also include regular responsive communication with students and colleagues, including maintaining regular office hours and consistent online engagement via email and the
classroom online learning management system.
