JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for system management functions for all shared computer system platforms and operating systems. This includes capacity planning, security administration, ensuring data integrity, data backup and recovery, system performance tuning, system software installation / upgrades, and general troubleshooting.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform system management functions for all VMS-based hardware platforms. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: verifying successful backups are being performed on a daily basis, monitoring and reporting disk usage, monitor and adjust database storage requirements, defining and maintaining printer definitions, assuring the systems are available on the network at all times.
  • Perform system management functions for all AIX-based hardware platforms. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: verifying successful backups are being performed on a daily basis, monitoring and reporting disk usage, defining and maintaining printer definitions, assuring the systems are available on the network at all times.
  • Perform system management functions for all PC server platforms. These requirements include but are not limited to: verifying successful backups on a daily basis, monitoring and reporting disk space usage, monitoring and adjusting database storage requirements, defining and maintaining printer definitions, assuring the systems are available on the network at all times.
  • Initiate and maintain all hospital systems hardware and software maintenance agreements
  • Add/modify/delete network printer on all systems. Log all printer modifications in Printer Management.
  • Maintain accurate drive maps on all AIX and VMS systems.
  • Assist with modifications to UMC backup strategy as needed.
  • Assist with modifications to UMC Disaster Recovery plan as needed.
  • Complete assignments delegated by the supervisor in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Log all activities in the Issue Tracker database and perform complete documentation of all activities and hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must have a degree in MIS or related field, or a minimum of two years of experience in supporting, maintaining and managing datacenter systems.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Organizational and troubleshooting skills are required to manage the network.

INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

Must work extensively with all other departments within the hospital and outlying clinics. Works with network hardware vendors and installation personnel. Also needs to work closely with TTUHSC network personnel.

PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Ability to lift PC and network peripherals, none to exceed 30 lbs. Ability to walk to all network communication centers within the UMC / TTUHSC buildings. Ability to drive to all remote network communication centers.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work in confined areas throughout the hospital. Also requires work in construction areas. Requires travel to PNS affiliated clinics within 100-mile radius of the hospital. Must provide own transportation, mileage will be reimbursed at current UMC rates.
