The Security Officer Tactical is a specialized security officer with advanced training in de-escalation techniques, advanced non-lethal defensive systems, defensive tactics, and critical thinking skills. The Security Officer Tactical primarily serves in the Emergency Department, operates as the first responder to the most violent and dangerous situations that occur in the facility and throughout the campus, and is the primary liaison with law enforcement during critical incidents. The Security Officer Tactical serves as a visual deterrent to crime and violence and will act as the liaison with law enforcement responders during critical incidents. When the incident involves anyone other than a patient, the Security Officer Tactical will be responsible for directing the security response to the violent incident. The Security Officer Tactical will assist with patrol functions across the campus; the welfare and safety of personnel and patients; investigations of critical incidents; provide security assistance to employees, patients and visitors and secures doors as needed; and may be assigned to work at any facility as needed.
The successful candidate will be mature and able to operate independently and as part of a unit. The best candidate will will have advanced critical thinking skills and the ability to calmly and peacefully resolve situations involving people in crisis. The candidate must be able to pass the Tactical Officer Certification Course, where s/he must demonstrate proficiencies in critical thinking, de-escalation techniques, non-lethal weapons systems qualifications and other tactical related exercises and curriculum. The successful candidate will be physically fit and able to maintain sufficient physical fitness to successfully pass the Cooper Institute Physical Fitness Assessment Test (1.5 mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, vertical jump, and 300 meter run) before selection to the Tactical Officer Certification Course, and on a bi-annual basis to retain employment in the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU).

AVADE certification- Required within 3 months from date of hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number- Required upon hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card- Required within 90 days of hire
Taser Certification- Preferred
Experience
3 years of law enforcement or military experience OR 7 years of experience in a hospital setting - Preferred
Experience in a healthcare setting - Preferred
Healthcare is a rapidly changing environment and technology is integrated into almost all aspects of patient care. Computers and other electronic devices are utilized across the organization and throughout each department. Colleagues must have an understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.
