GFT is seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Transportation Team in Fort Worth, TX; Austin, TX; or Houston, TX! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at one of these office locations.

Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position inspects and oversees construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications by performing the following duties. Performs quality control inspection activities. This position is responsible for reporting directly to construction sites to observe and document contractor’s work conforms to contract requirements, maintaining project files/documentation, compiling and calculating quantities of work performed to be used in calculating monthly contractor payments, and interacting with clients on a regular basis.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts.
  • Verifies levels, alignment, and elevation of installations.
  • Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures followed and materials used conform to specifications.
  • Prepares samples of unapproved materials for laboratory testing.
  • Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standard and approved installation.
  • Interprets blueprints and specifications for Contractor and discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction.
  • Records quantities of materials received or used during specified periods.
  • Maintains daily log of construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports.
  • Capable of handling small to medium projects of moderate complexity.
  • Has capability to monitor several types of work activity, however not simultaneously.
  • Maintain construction safety practices and work methods for compliance
  • Work independently with minimum supervision

Qualifications

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years of inspection experience with some technical training or equivalent experience. Vertical building construction will not be considered as relevant experience.
  • Must have knowledge of Word Processing software and Internet software.
  • Each inspector must possess at minimum a valid Class “C” driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Due to the public work and including near or around schools inspectors must have clean criminal background history.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, experience with SiteManager or HeadLight preferred.
  • Certificates and Licenses – TxDOT Work Category Precertifications, ACI Field and/or Strength Certifications, Troxleror similar state DOT certification are preferred.

Compensation:

The hourly range for this position is $39.00 - $50.00. Hourly rate is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
