Responsible for supervision, direction, and coordination of fire management activities including prevention, detection, suppression, and investigation of wildfires and the prescribed fire program in Eastern Alger, Eastern Delta and Schoolcraft Counties. Fire protection area includes state, private, and other public lands. Respond as incident commander on larger fire situations. Responsible for the direct supervision of three Forest Fire Officers located at the Seney Field Office, one Forest Fire Officer at the Manistique Fire Shop and one Forest Fire Officer at the Shingleton Management Unit Office. Responsible for fire equipment readiness and maintenance. Responsible for assisting the Unit Manager in coordinating the work to be done in the Cultivation Program for the unit. This position may assist Parks and Recreation Division (PRD) with recreation projects as needed, as well as Off Road Vehicle (ORV) restoration grant work. Responsible for the road and bridge/ facilities maintenance program for the unit. Assist with land management and timber programs on the unit. This position may also assist with implementing special projects such as the Good Neighbor Authority partnership with the Hiawatha National Forest.
